Reviews for "Kill the Rabbit"

I really liked the concept of this game, and how well the music settled the player into a mysterious atmosphere. Motor controls were very smooth on my end, but perhaps a little fast. Both endings were very unexpected turns; it really makes you think about what's going on inside that fox's head.
I would recommend adding some more buttons (eg. replay, mute), and maybe fixing that small glitch with the double jump. Still a nice game, overall!
I look forward to more of your games in the future!!

Thanks a lot! I think I'll add some GUI to the game for more features. I've always shied away from the UI because I was scared they could mess with atmosphere but I think its purpose is warranted. I think I might also add a level select type menu for this. Time constraints made me cut a lot of juicy things and focused only on the meat, but I think I can go back into it and do some touching up. Thanks for the review!

2/5. It could have been an excellent short platformer but you botched it with the controls and the level design.

BUG: on the "don't kill black rabbits" level if you first jump to the second platform then to the last and kill the rabbits in that order the level will reset. That is a shame since that level is broken as hell.

On subsequent levels the LEFT + SPACE combo does not seem to work...you cannot jump.

trixelbit responds:

The level design works for the controls. Like I said, its about knowing when to execute the lunge. Also note, the Lung isn't a combo. Description even says it's space while moving. I also like how you completely miss the thematic and metaphorical value of the game. Even if the mechanics, where horrible and my game had no narrative, you could at-least approach reviewing with a constructive, positive approach. I've been trying to make the controls consistent but for a lot of people, it works. But for others, it doesn't. Some even say it was pretty easy. So the problem is either in the engine or individual player computers/ browsers. Like I said, it's an issue I'm tackling.

I killed both.

trixelbit responds:

Wait, at the the same time!? I need to try that out, lol.

While this game seems to possess incredible potential and an interesting gameplay, I have to remove half a star for how unreliable the jump and double jump move is, forcing me to remain stuck at the "imagine what this could have been..." stage. Sometimes, the motion for the double jump does not register at all, and my fox falls to its doom. And more often than not, the maximum height of the jump seems to vary. You need a combination of luck and utter precision to pull it off.

I also removed half the star for the lagginess of the game itself, which may affect the jumping as I explained in the previous game.

I would like to explore more of the game, but I have been stuck on the same stage for a little over half a hour, and it is very disheartening.

trixelbit responds:

Sorry for the bad experience. What you mentioned is something very odd but not uncommon. I've only tested the game on my PC and none of those issues arose ( lag, inconsistent jump ), but I think it might be an error on the part of the engine, because similar issues with games I made in the engine. Definitely going to test this out .Hopefully I'll get this issue figured out. Most of the thematic elements of the game come out in the end. Anyways, apologies for the inconsistent play, definitely know how inconsistent player control can screw up game feel and technical play.

The game is really frustrating, and not in a good way. It seems like some stuff were made just to add unecessary dificulty. One thing is to challange the player, the otheris to troll them. The player needs to think THEY are doing something wrong, not the game. Overall, the art is pretty good and it's a kinda enjoyable game. Would be a lot better if it wasn't so hard.
