Reviews for "Kill the Rabbit"

Well, this was pretty good! Basic and simple, but good.

In this game, you are a fox being told by some anonymous text to kill white rabbits but spare black rabbits. The texts that tell you to kill the white rabbits continuously claim that the rabbits are the spawn of evil incarnate and all that, all while you hack and slash on the rabbits fur with your fox powers, making you wonder if it's really speaking the truth. There are two endings to the game, but I don't wanna spoil them.

The gameplay is basic and simple, but fun. You can walk, double jump, use a regular stand-still attack and a dash attack that also serves the purpose of reaching greater heights sometimes. Everytime you attack, you lose a bit of energy, so you must attack sparingly. The objective of each stage is simply to kill all white rabbits, and killing black rabbits takes away some health, so you must avoid that. The simplicity of this concept made for an enjoyable and no-stress playthrough, but it did feel like it could contain at least a little more variation to give it flavor.

Also, the graphics look nice, retro with a slightly cartoonish feel, and I like the music a lot too, a sweet 8-bit tune that really goes well with the theme.

My complaints are that, first of all, the game is too short (a given, since this is a jam entry) and that sometimes it's hard to control whether you do a dash attack or a stand-still attack (it seems to me like any horizontal momentum you have is sufficient to send the fox flying in the direction you're facing when you hit space) which frustrated me a bit sometimes, until I got the hang of it. Also, maybe a few more features would make this more satisfying?

The first impression I had on this game was that it seems like a very pleasing game. The fact that you managed to complete this in its entirety in only two weeks is very admirable and impressive.

Though to others it may seem frustrating, it is only because they would need to get the hang of combining the lunge attack with jumping in order to reach higher platforms, which makes the game interesting and enjoyable (except for the many times I almost succeeded but failed but that's part of the whole experience). Despite the lunge attack's great range, I believe that it works for the enjoyment of the game. If the range was decreased, it would also decrease in difficulty (for more novice gamers), making the game seem much shorter but that's just me failing quite a bit.

There are a few times where the game does not correctly input that I double jumped but 99% of the time, it has done what I inputted so it's fine. There are no other technical errors I have spotted and the animation and music is great. I really enjoyed the music so awesome job on that.

As for the story, the theme of deception does indeed go very well with it. It's also a clever element to add in the health bar and make it decrease, seemingly giving the player a different idea about their mission. *SPOILERS TO ENDING OF GAME. DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED IT YET* When I picked the black rabbit at first, the monster coming out of the white rabbit honestly blew my mind and I just had to replay it (twice since I accidentally picked the black rabbit again my second time which is sad) to see the other ending. I also expected something like that to happen but looking at both choices, it certainly makes me think about the actual motives of the dark bunnies and the white bunnies. But that's probably going too far lol. *END SPOILERS*

Overall, I give this 5 stars looking at the game as a whole, both technically and visually. One must understand that this should not be compared to any other games that are not similar in genre. But anyway, nice job! ^-^

If you manage to quickly kill both rabbits at the end (in either order) all you get is a black screen with a lifebar

This game was pretty unique, and both endings weren't what I expected, and I love it when games surprise me. This was a pretty good game, the controls worked, and I was entertained throughout the whole game. Keep up the good work!

I really enjoyed this game, a tad frustrating for the novice gamers, however it was a great thought provoking game. The addition of the quotes elevated it for me by becoming a story that continues each time I complete a level. Loved the ending, how it breaks away from the traditional 'Yay, you beat the game!!' to more of a 'There is no real "win".' and I found that to be really cool. Plus, great music! :D The only thing I can really say is to maybe shorten how far the fox's lunge extends to, because there were times where the fox would lunge too far and kinda die so yeah.

But other than that, Great job. :D it was an awesome game.
