Reviews for "Cold Memories"

*Ahem* Time to give a huge critic.
I am a huge fan of Key's VN's as it seems you are because of you using their songs in your games. I was ok with that as you had given credit for that, though I can not forgive that you had taken a backround without saying so (in your comments as usual) from one of their games. Also the hit boxes were still too big, there is no roof and you can jump over objects by going off screen.
I was very disappointed with the terrible backrounds that were nothing but a powerpoint backround hue. The game text transitions went by fast and were not click activated as to give time to reader to read them (they went by without me being able to read it). and the game was also very very long without enough play. The time for that would've been reduced had there been a way to speed up text appearance. There was also no level/stage select so if you had gotten stuck (which I almost did several times) you would've had to restart.
I will say that the story is one of a kind but would've been better in a different game type. If you just wanted to tell a story you would've had a better chance making a simple VN that is static. For the many of terrible fails this had I have to give this a 2, and I expect a fix from this.

The filesize was way too huge, especially for a game like this without any impressive graphics.

The dialogue appeared on the screen way too slow - I can read much faster than that. It seems holding the down arrow speeds up the dialogue sometimes but I didn't know about that until late in the game. There ought to be another key to speed dialogue.

The gameplay itself was very boring.

Towards the end (after i had defeated Light twice), I got hit by a bullet, then the game froze and crashed and I had to restart my browser. And there's no "continue." So I didn't even get to see the rest of the story.

Overall a very bad experience.

Dark06Star responds:

Oh well.. I think you should have read the description before playing the game ^^;;. because you can actually skip to the final boss from the first level..

the gameplay is some of the most bare-bones dry stuff you out there. level design is repetitive
the narrative should not excuse everything.

the "story" is your typical redundant dribble that passes for dramatic plots these days
having the constantly press "S" while the text slooowly types out is not my idea of fun, i can predict the generic lines like clockwork. it's bad, at least the control for dialogue should be tighter

1 star- music, very pleasing
0,5 star- some of the backgrounds are beautiful, that's another thing the art is terribly inconsistent sprite&picture backdrops, -0,5 because the backgrounds jitter about awkwardly

A disappointment...

You play this game for the environment and the story. The richness of the dark atmosphere. And that part is written...decently. Spelling mistakes abound. The "haha"s are jarring visually to see along with the rest of the text. Just take out the " "s. I'd recommend finding an editor to double check your script. Finally, the text moves at a snail's pace and loops itself. So I sit there in a level that takes 5 seconds to beat, reading lines that I can read in 4 seconds, waiting for words to appear that take a minute to show up, but I still stuck with the reading the story because it was interesting! Your story can shine if you learned a bit more in flash to make this run smoother.

Next is the glitches. I played the last installment, Heat, and I had to stop playing because I got caught in a brick. I watched the rest of the game on youtube and started playing this one. Right before the end, I got caught in another glitch.

~~~~Spoiler, look away now.~~~~~
When I was fighting Light and right after he flashes back to the accident, I went into a jump and got stuck on something in the environment. What happened in those levels would be some sort of random shift of all the blocks. It would then land over heat and It started to crash my flash, so I had to shut it down. This game is loads more advanced than Heat, but if you still have technical problems with your game it'll prevent people from missing out the ends of the story.
I reloaded the game and tried it again. Then Heat wouldn't stop running left for some reason.
I tried it a third time and ran till the end. I did this mostly to check to see if you used credits, and you didn't. Some of the art in there wasn't yours. It was ripped off of the Madoka Anime. Please try to include some note about that in the future.
I'm a bookworm, but I lost interest pretty early.
