Reviews for "Cold Memories"

http://www.notdoppler.com/pretentious game.php
Though the "game" is fairly immersive when you start, its problems become more and more apparent the farther you play.
Such as its sloppy controls, unresponsive buttons (especially with dialog progression), messy level design, and of course its pretentious story.
But, if i where to give credit where it is due.
The music is emotional and full of magic.
But it's story... ugh i was putting together exactly what kind of story it was going to be, with in the first act.
Of course i had not played the original game, but from what i could see of this game is that it's a prequel to the game Heat.
A story of madness, Friendship, and discovery of the darkness inside of the main character.
Though many questions still remain, such as the disappearance of Sam the cat, where the mother went, ect.
Is the main character a insane killer or is something else in the air.
And as my favorite imbecilic director would say, in regards to Light, "What a twist!"

All in all a game that want's to drive you but all the while fights against you with its control and juvenile writing, and deeply flawed game play.

Dark06Star responds:

Well.. as I said before, I am not an expert game designer, this game was the second game I make.. So of course I don't expect it to be perfect. But I did try my best with the controls and tried to make them as good as possible, and if you played the first game "Heat" you will see that the controls did improve... And with the level design, I didn't want to make it too hard because I don't want people to just rage quit..

And as for the story... Things are explained if you pay attention to what the characters say, such as what happened to the mother, his cat, and even his father.

I am glad you played the game and went through the effort to write this, I appreciate criticism because it will make me improve more in my later games ^^.

this is simply riddled with bugs and bad game design choices. i'm sorry this could not be more overrated.

Dark06Star responds:

umm.. Thank you? lol

I just love how most people judge this as if this game was made by professional video-game designers.. But it's not...

Anyway, this is your opinion and I appreciate it :3

If you want me to play the game give me some way to increase the speed at which text appears. It's too boring to wait several seconds for every little sentence. While you' re at it you could also include a way to replay the last room should one ever leave a room before reading all messages.
Two stars because it's a story-driven game in which the way your story is told is too boring for me to play it.

I really like stories though and yours seems to be very enjoyable judging from the other reviews so I will definitely read it if you ever implement a way to speed it up.

Dark06Star responds:

Hmm.. Well you can actually speed up the text if you hold down the (down arrow) ... And I don't really understand which room you are talking about O.o.. The final boss? or the last one before the game ends?..

I kept missing the text because it would go by too fast. I might have been holding down a key at the time which skips it (since I'd been holding it in the level I was playing before the text appeared), but if it's that easy to miss what is apparently the only good part of the game, it's kind of annoying.

Dark06Star responds:

Umm... but the you can just read the text as many times as you want after the characters finished talking. o:

-1 for bad gameplay, especially hit detection. (Refer to the Company of Myself and its sequel, Fixation for the definition of smooth gameplay)
-1 for stealing music. (Normally it's a deadly -5 sin, but I admire your taste. You have still disappointed Nagi, though) (Refer to the NG movie Lilium for how to credit the music, at least)
-1 for a snail-pace dialogue speed. (Refer to Air Pressure or Phantom Seed for a good speed)
-1 for ****'s sake, Y U NO compress (Refer to Snow Snow for Lucy)
-0.5 for a half-kitsch story (Refer to RPG Shooter: Starwish for a good story)
-0.4 for lacking a replay button
+2 for creating good atmosphere. Not many flash games care about atmosphere anymore.
-0.1 for not using spellcheck.
-0 because this game and Heat reminds me of my pain when I was studying Wuthering Heights. Even the girls' names are similar.

I, personally, do not think this deserves frontpage, but I believe NG admins' tastes. It shows that you have aptitude. My humble suggestion would be, learn how to program flash games nicely, or just do visual novels like Air Pressure.

Cheers and stay beautiful.

Dark06Star responds:

I didn't steal the music. I never claimed they were mine, yet I didn't just take the music I did some editing to them -.-, also it's not like I am making money out of other peoples work. And I did compress as much as I could, so that too.. I'm sorry you don't like the game. It's not for everyone I guess ^^.
