Reviews for "Motorjoust"

So how do you actually win the jousts? It seems completely random to me. Poor gameplay. Obstacles do nothing, power and magic seem to do nothing. Needs a tutorial or some kind of explanation.

WingDemon responds:

I don't blame you for not 'understanding' the game. Giving players instructions was very much an afterthought, however we DID include them at the beginning of your first playthrough and on the main menu under "Help". Don't skip em next time :P

Hey Man, sorry you couldn't get the game. There's another review on here i went into a little more depth about the gameplay that you could check out if you wanted, but basically your pow/mag bars display both yours and your opponents pow/mag at the same time and you have to get higher then him in one of the categories. there's more too it, but you gotta read the instructions in the game man.

the scrolling hurts my eyes the bike is hard to control i can barely see whats coming and there's glitches 1/5 at best

WingDemon responds:

There's glitches? NO WAY MAN! for a game made in 2 WHOLE WEEKS i didn't think there'd be any glitches whatsoever.

just kidding. yeah, we tried our best to polish it up but apparently we missed some :( PM me a bug report if the glitches you experienced are game breaking. Thanks for the help man. We'll see what we can do about the scrolling.

Blegh. The ramps demanded--and really, tolerated--no strategy, just hope you don't pay too hard for coming at them at whatever speed you were at. Also you are comparing stats so the best way to do it is to completely ignore speed and grab every single pickup along the way. Makes for an extremely boring game. If the ramps worked like they do in Excitebike, I would be down with it, but this game seems to really, really resent any attempt to try to go fast.

You, sirs, have created a Sonic the Hedgehog game--and unfortunately, it's one of the recent ones.

Also, on the point of aesthetics--low resolution does not mean low framerate. I mean this specifically in terms of the opening splashes, though screen transitions from opponent select to pre-level chat to actual gameplay are also laborious.

There's a good game to be had with this idea. You certainly didn't make that game, though.

WingDemon responds:

First off, thanks for giving it a try.

Here's some answers to the points you posed,

the ramps were designed to act with real physics rather than fake physics that all NES and most modern Flash game use - inability to jump off of them really boils down to skill, since again, its real physics; that was one of the key features in the game for level progression.

Speed is a bigger thing to win over pow/magic because you have a full 80 seconds for a level, so Speed is essentially a free powerup, and you only have to worry about power or Magic.

Low Resolutions = Lower framerate in flash, here's why, the game is made with vectors, each vector has to be redrawn by your computer. The actual game runs at 30 fps which is the same as most if not all Flash games (examples are the Fancy Pants adventures and most games on Newgrounds) we tried to make as many images as we could as .png's and spit those out with our engine, but essentially we couldn't do it for everything. In other words, the low frame rate is from your end, since other people have a fine time playing it. (yes even though this is a flash game it is slightly computer intensive, so having not having a modern computer configuration can cause frame rate issues)

And i actually liked Sonic the Hedgehog games :(

Anyway thanks again for playing, hope you enjoyed some part of it atleast :D

This game is really bad. The controls are awful, the music is okay, and the second half of the game is really hard. If you plan on remaking this game, don't rush. I'm sure it could be better.
Also...

"You can go fuck your own hypocritical ass with your shitty minecraft skins."

That was uncalled for. I would say more about this, but I review games, not insults. Hopefully, you can make a better game next time.

WingDemon responds:

actually what Test said wasn't uncalled for, if you actually read the review the guy clearly said that pixel art was for people that were lazy, though he was alot more hostile. Not only was that insulting towards Test who did the sprites and a majority of the games art, its an insult to most of the pixel artists in the world. Plus he was being a hypocritical ass since he did share pixel art minecraft skins on his NG profile. If you're going to say more about it, then think twice before doing so.

also, your statement about us rushing it, it was a Game Jam game, we had 2 weeks to make it. you try making a game in two weeks while taking the abuse of NG trolls 0 blamming the game and basically leaving POS reviews (not unlike yours) and having to pretend to be nice to them. Its hard on a person. So i highly doubt it was uncalled for.

And an absolute like "this game is really bad" beginning your review, which btw included no constructive criticism and poses an opinion differed on by a large group of people completely negates the authority in which you say 'I review games, not insults' because really it makes you sound like a preteen ass.

I've tried to be nice and respond to every review on this game in a positive way, but its hard having to deal with bullshit reviews like yours made from the perspective of an idiot that doesn't know shit about game development and thinks his review actually means something.

Anyway, i hope you're having a nice summer. Enjoy the rest of middle school chum. hope you don't get pushed off a cliff anytime soon.
