Good game but there are several spots were taking a hit is unavoidable.
I understand what you're going for, but the controls are awkward and add a lot of fake difficulty to the game. Fix them and it'll be much better.
In this day and age, customized controls should be standards on all games, period. Why on earth you placed a movement key and an aiming key on the same hand is unfathomable. Then to jump (movement) I need to hit A instead of up, or at LEAST W, which would be way more natural to a gamer. I understand you're trying to be all "retro", but there's a reason games have changed over the years, and controls is one of them. You can keep the retro feel with modern controls.
okay so some stuff i would do for this game is allow for diagonal shooting and run-and-gun for all directions. that would have helped a lot on the second boss. other than that, you got a solid game that gives off that Gunstar Heroes feel.
