Nice potential atmosphere, but the game did its best to pull me out of the experience:
- That text at the start. Ergh. I can either wait for it all, or skip it entirely? And there's SO MUCH. That could have been fitted into 1 screen (that you could access later on), that fades in as 1 pic, not letter by letter. If you must have other blocks of intro text then the first click of the "continue" button should make it all appear (second click to progress to the next part). It was simply frustrating.
- The controls were rather clunky. You couldn't interact with a lot of objects (silly me for thinking that bottle of wine on the table was for me, guess he's saving it up for a special day), and sometimes when you could it didn't seem to work (e.g. the second time I tried to harvest berries).
- How are we not getting any moisture from wet foods (e.g. fruit, raw meat)?
- Can't get water from the river? It'd have been nice if he'd said something when I was first at the river. Again with not being able to interact with things.
- Hares are one of the world's fastest land animals. We weren't using snares or guns. HOW were we getting near them? The fantasy world where animals hop willingly into your mouth doesn't blend well with that of the isolated horror scenario.
- I had the menu up near the end of Day 2 and I died. I have no idea what killed me. Did I have a nightmare or something? Tsk.
- Those SUDDEN IMAGE/SOUND jumps are cheap. I know some people think they're all there is to horror, but flashing up kittens with loud mews would have the same effect and I take them about as seriously.
And so on. You can have 2 stars for the eerie sounds and what seemed to be a fairly good concept, but so many little problems and downright silly elements really take away from the experience and make it frustrating and dull.
