Reviews for "Relic"

I tried to play it, but using the mouse to navigate menus and choose your foes in real times battles simply felt too slow. Especially at the start where all you're doing is picking attack.

The ability to use WASD/Arrow Keys and Enter to pick would have been a much better idea.

i see you worked hard on this but something about it doesn't keep it interresting very long
or that just me?

Hyptosis responds:

Yeah, it's possible I concentrated too much on the code and let the story get stale, I'll try to do better next time.

There are many flaws in this game (At least during my playthrough) I shall go right into explaining why.

There are many mention of bugs and glitches from reviews and author's comment. I only encountered the ones where the character freezes up, but upon pressing the 'Q', it is solved. So I had no huge problems with fluidity of gameplay.

But the game's System Design is very much flawed (At least from my experience when playing. If my case was an exception, please clarify)

Status Points Distribution System, what I liked about it is that it clarifies what adding each stat does. But the balance is very much off, I'm talking about [Magic], skill's damage solely relies on this stat, even when the damage done is physical, it still relies on magic. I know that this is explained to the players when choosing to add [Magic], however the calculation for balancing is WAY OFF.
Let me elaborate on this: Jahti is a balanced fighter, so she is supposedly neither reliant on physical attack nor magic. Therefore, the damage difference between them should not be that far off right? And given that Skills uses MP, Skill's damage should be at least higher yes?
Currently my Jahti has 13 Strength and 12 Magic. Remember that ALL SKILL relies ONLY on [Magic] for damage calculation. My normal {Attack} command deals 39 damage, and then I used [Piercing Shot] which ignores opponent's defense and cost me 10 MP, it deals a pathetic 37 damage. This occurs to ALL my other party members too.

Next is Cinnacat, a character that is supposedly heavily reliant on [Magic], his attacking damage is pitiful, and his equipment is not helping at all, all of his equips gives very minute damage addition. The problem is... He has absolutely no attacking skills, the only character worth pumping your Status Points into [Magic] and he has no attacking spells, all healing. So what is he supposed to do when my other characters are not in need of healing?

And next, if you choose to [Attack] the opponent, you cannot go back to the Command Menu; Meaning that if you accidentally clicked on [Attack], you have no choice but to attack.

Then, the balance in enemy's strength versus your own. The opponent's capabilities keep jumping rapidly, the difference is really big. At the last stage, with my characters at level 12, most of their hp is only 120. With the exception of the Tanker and the average Guardian, both having about 210 HP. There will be enemies that deal 55 damage each hit. That means 3 out of my 5 member would be reduced to half HP in one hit.
That is considering that the enemy only spawns one of that type, but it's possible to spawn up to 3, and they have large amount of HP. I'm busy healing myself to attack the enemy, defeatable, but too difficult to be normal opponents in my opinion.

When fighting the last 3 bosses back to back, a perplexing glitch occurred: The enemies could not attack me. Meaning they turned into my punching bag.

The easiest way to dominate this game is really with each level up, add 1 or 2 to the Stamina, then add the rest to Strength, with the exception of Cinnacat, add all the rest to Magic. Dexterity is useless.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback, I'll take it all to heart and try to remember this on future games.

While i will admit that this was a fairly good rpg, it did lack some of the MAJOR points of a well rounded one. First and foremost... This was REAAALLLYYYY short. The story was pretty bland as well... I use firefox and it still went pretty slow for me. I know my computer isnt that great anyways, but still. I made it all the way to the end and whatnot. It just didnt feel satisfying. The equips were almost TOO straightforward. And you never even really NEEDED something to be weak against your attacks (Unless its a fucking Mister Monday. OP AS FUCK). Also... once your healer has about 10 magic, this game is over... Its too easy. The balancing is way off for this game, which is a shame for an rpg. It is a fine piece of art though. This looked beautiful and i wish i had a better processor or something so that it moved smoothly. And... Maybe for future reference, add a Quality button PLEASE.

**BUG??**
Not sure if this is a bug, but the last two main guys i fought NEVER attacked. Only the two minions that came with them did. And then i just spent the longest time clicking attack attack attack. They never retaliated, which was a let down and was a major factor of me not being satisfied about beating the game.

Hyptosis responds:

The attacking issue, there have been a few other mentions of this and I haven't figured out how to recreate it yet. There are obvious timers built into the game that fire when the enemy's stats dictate it, the only time the player get modify this timer is with the freezing spell from Fjor. I'll keep digging, thanks.

awesome game only thing i didnt like was the random encounters but other than that top notch

Hyptosis responds:

Thanks!
