Reviews for "redemption"

The second I heard 0:48, I ripped my earphones out so I could listen to its entirety once I got out of the Taiwanese taxi.

This song is so beautiful... For some reason, the sound of the children makes it sound really nostalgic, and then etherealwinds comes in and makes it sound like all the stresses of today are gone. (I think this might border on heresy, but personally, while I enjoyed eth's voice, I didn't really like the sounds he was making very much - I think it might be because the vowel sounds he used were a bit weird for me.)

I think this is some of your best drum work. I've always thought your drum kit sounded nice and had tons of potential, and in this one, I think you brought it out to some of its fullest. Not sure if anyone's mentioned this to you before, but one of my favorite things about your drum kit is that your kick isn't really bass-y; it's more like a really really low mid, so it doesn't clash with the bass that much.

Your ending was really nice this time, even though it dragged on a bit. Even though you played the ending bit a ton of times, I still thought you'd end on a more conclusive chord. Poor, naive me. :D

Great work! I'm reticent to say it, but I'm going to take a risk here and say that I just think you might've advanced to the next round.

It's hilarious that the complaint you had about him was actually my fault. In reality I ended up chopping up a little stem he gave me and reworking it into what you here now, so all the weirdness is just me. :p

> Non-bassy kick

That would be because I'm using an acoustic drum kit, rather than an electric one! I like it for more acoustic songs. Bass-heavy kicks only really work imo in heavy electronica stuff.

> end on a more conclusive chord

Well, it's the tonic, how much more conclusive do you want ;-) But yes. SADNESS FOR ALL >:D

okay wow, so what you've done with my voice in this is super cool. you have this talent for being able to mold whatever instrument you're using it on a magnified level to really get your desired effects and I think that, to me, is what makes your pieces so special all of the time. (@LunacyEcho, I wasn't making those sounds or vowel noises haha, johnfn cut my singing to make it sound like that ^_~)

my favourite part about this piece is actually probably the piano composition, especially twinned with the sounds of the playground voices. there's a real beauty about this song that I've not really heard from you in the past. I think the decay on the piano ends a little abruptly, perhaps that's an error with the render, however it would have sounded more complete with a subtle fade-out. I think that's probably what you intended anyway though!

yeahhh, it's a shame steamy and zippy couldn't enter this round, there's no doubts that it would have been a boss battle round to say the least! congratulations on getting through by default nonetheless. with a piece like this, no person can say that you don't at least deserve your place in the next round! ^ ^

I can't wait to hear more of your work!! well done sir~

This is why I follow you. Your atmospheres go to a place that not many people can recreate. This is deep stuff. The reason why the emotions aren't being screamed at and in the face is because they aren't ones that you shout out regardless of how deep they go, but these are the ones that can't be translated, let alone shouted. Like at 02:40. I can think of someone elderly or to be more relatable, myself sometimes at college. It's the feeling of someone who's tired of doing what they can or doing what they should, and is grieving to just return to doing what they want. What makes them feel happy.

Yeah good song. Not many complaints if you haven't noticed. Thank you.

Hey, thanks for the really kind review Spadezer! I feel like I'm hyper aware of when I'm living up to my own high standards and when I'm doing stuff that's disappointing, but it's always frustrating because there's no real way to force inspiration and creativity to happen to a piece that doesn't want it to happen, ya know? Anyway my point is, I'm glad you liked the song.

HOW DID I MISS THIS ONE?!?!?!?! I love the atmosphere in the beginning - that soulful guitar and the spacey piano and synths are beautiful! The melodies at around :50 just add to the emotion more, and those drums add an appropriate element of energy to the piece. The children's voices that come in at around 3:00 add a lot of meaning to the piece in my opinion, especially given the title. EtherealWinds' vocals added a lot to the piece, too. Man, he is GOOD! It's strange how the lack of words in the vocals seem to give them meaning...almost like "redemption" means finding an identity again, but now there are no words left to describe yourself. The saxophone-sounding synth and heavier bass synth at 4:15 added some much-needed contrast. I can tell you thought a lot about where to include the drums and where not to. This is fantastic, though. I was beginning to yearn for some dynamic contrast, and then 5:54 happened - just hauntingly beautiful, Johnfn. I deeply regret not reviewing this earlier. Hopefully it will all be worth it when (if?) I get into college. :') Well, anyway, this is an instant favorite and download. This needs to be on my iPod NOW! I love the change of style, btw. Keep up the inspiring work, my friend. ;'D
