Reviews for "Dangerous Dungeons"

Fun game, fun retro style

Fun game, pretty challenging.

Ran into a bug that wiped out my save game apparently. I was in the second area with the rising/dropping water level, and my character got squished between the water/log and the walls, the game froze then flash crashed. When I came back my progress was all gone and I had to start from the first area.

Thought I'd report that, I hope it gets fixed.

Control bug needs fixing.

Seems to be quite a big problem with this game. Occasionally, the controls get stuck and the character continues running in one direction after you've stopped pressing the directional button. This is quite a serious flaw considering the game involves lots of precision jumps and such.

I only got up to level three. I stopped playing at that point because I died three times when little Timmy kept running off a ledge after I'd stopped pressing the right directional arrow. If you can fix this, I reckon you'd have a genuinely enjoyable platformer.

AdventureIslands responds:

I have never experienced this bug. What exactly did you do when it happened?

Played at K.

I am getting a weird error where the NG loader comes up over the game loader. When the game loads, the NG loader blocks the screen. I can still hit options on the menu, but cannot see anything... Please fix this, as love newgrounds far more then kongregate...

Well

*note, in review of my review before submitting it, I notice that you don't ever call it a puzzle platformer, and in-fact it is classified as an action platformer. I don't know where I got that from, but I am too lazy to edit the remainder of my review so consider this amendment my acknowledgement of that. Thanks.

Very interesting. And quite difficult. Admittedly, I did not play the whole game. I prefer my puzzle platformers to be more puzzle and less you have to time everything just right or you die. That being said I also found it quite addicting and had to walk away because the game was frustrating me. A few things of note:

1. I have the in-game medal for the first boss (yes the thing showed up) but the NG medal doesn't show. I saw in the reviews I'm not the only person who had this happen.

2. "Timmy" got stuck going in one direction. Unlike when this usually happens in games pressing the button again did not un-stick him. I had to restart the game and it didn't repeat. I don't know if this is a freak bug, a stencyl thing, or what. Just thought I would throw it out there.

3. Though I do understand that the game is intended to be difficult it feels like some of the levels are cut pretty close in both how you have to move and the overall time of the level (first boss). Again this goes to there being less puzzle and more perfect timing.

4. Also like some others I found the movement to be a bit touchy. By that I mean sometimes I would move or jump a short distance/height and sometimes it would be farther/higher. It did not seem to depend upon how long the key was pressed. Though occasionally a short or long/high jump would get me killed I do not feel, however, that it was detrimental to the game.

All things being said, and for what this game is, this is a very good game. And even though it isn't exactly my proverbial cup of tea, I did find it addicting and quite frustration. You did well on the art, music, and style of the game. And, even if I don't finish it, I really look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Excellent

fantastic game. Very, very, very challenging but beatable. Couldn't hurt to add levels of difficulty all you would need to to do is slow the timing down on some of the environmental disasters, an extra platform here or there. Something to think about for your next game because I hope you make another one of these. On the last level and making foolish mistakes, really wanna know what I gotta do for the secret levels. Don't let the haters posting on here bother you, some people are meant for hardcore platforming, timing, skilled challenges and others play turn based RPG's (sorry guys some games can't be beat by 'grinding' for hours till the game rolls over for you). One peice of advice to make the game playable for everyone, a mode that gives the player a limited amount of health will allow for more mistakes without having to start over and thus easier to complete ( of course falling into the water or lava is instant death but running through some fire or spikes can be forgiven a few times per level). Also, would like to see the next game utilize swinging physics; vines, rope, chains, etc.
