Reviews for "Jack's Halloween Treats"

Excellent work!!! True Halloween spirit!! Good Job!!

i liked this

it wasnt gory or violent, it wasnt overly full of cliches, it felt like an original story that was halloween based and was done very well. the characters all had different aspects that i liked *and disliked* just like characters should be like, and i just liked this animation in general. good job mr pumpkin head.

Very nice!

Very nice indeed. Nice story, good pacing, enjoyable music. I liked the excellent voice acting and THAT made the characters all the better! Very professional.

The only thing that bugged me, (and I hope you don't think of me as a nitpicker) is that the story gave me a typical amarican 90's cartoon feel. And don't get me wrong, I liked most of those american cartoon shows, but they always seem so.. chiché and predictable. And that is what I thought/felt when I watched this. Nothing to new or never done before.

I really like your style. And thinking how you all animated this, in the span of 1 month leaves me in awe! You did a very fine job and the chance of you winning the Halloween competition aren't that slim with a beauty like this! Keep up the good work. I'll be watching your progress now and then.

Sincerely yours, Anneloez

Halloween flash done right

Not too scary, not too kiddy as well, this flash is just a good watch for the occassion. The pace was unpredictable, and surprises you with more when you thought it had ended. The sound, animation and story was excellent. This will surely get a much better score once it gets posted on the frontpage.

Thanks for sharing this :)

Exceptional and all around very well done

I don't hand tens out like candy, if you will, but I think this flash deserves nothing but the top most score. This was great, the excellent character models and how they all bit the dust was truly something worth waiting for on the load screen. Though there are some issues about plot and audio I'd like to tell you about.

Now, let me tell you that I think you're art work and character models were excellent, the mouth movement was so so but I feel that this flash was a real "treat" none the less. The animation was rather fluent and felt good, you pulled off some advanced effects with your flash skills that was wonderful surprise. I enjoyed the shaky camera movement and the sudden flash movement on Jack's part very much. You're choice of audio was great, it certainly fit the tone of a typical creepy Halloween movie, good job. The time spent was not wasted.

That good stuff being said I like to move on to what I saw wrong. The two things that bugged me. A. audio transition and B. character deaths.

Now let me explain A. The Audio was a good choice, the sound effects and the voice actors were good (although the girls voice was a bit typical) but it's the way you transitioned the pieces throughout the flash that disturbed me. Instead of allowing the background music to naturally flow into another piece, it would suddenly be stopped by no noise at all. Which sort of broke the immersion effect that the rest of the piece strove so hard to achieve, it feels as if you've stubbed your own toe on this one. This is not a huge problem but it can seperate the big boys from the little ones. You are not allowing your flash to be its best by breaking immersion through this problem. Simply allow audio pieces to overlap each other so that there is never a non-intentional silent moment. I just got watching "Halloween" Which is hailed for its Orchestra pieces and suspensful scenes created by those pieces of music. Music like you used is used to immerse the viewer, it can do that only if you allow it. So please allow it next time.

Now for B. IMy problem wth your plot is that it kills 2 out of the 3 in quick, unimaginative ways. With this I have to say that the character types you chose were good. The typical set up of a Male leader, Female support role and Male friend support role. A good trio. And the lead up to the house was good and expected for them to follow into the spider's web. But then came the first death. I very quick and enigmatic death. You simply kill him by squashing him with a pumpkin. Not very scary. Than the second death. When the Female support goes off without the lead and winds up in a tight spot.
This death was the best one. She suddenly makes to leave and as soon as she does she is greeted to an endless hallway in front of and behind her. Than confronted by Jack he scares her into a room full of Chloe clones with pumpkin heads that reveal to her her very own character flaw of being far too bossy. And kill her. That was brilliant. That was creative. That was all in all how each death should have been. But what was most dissapointing was the Male leads death. He just dies like that, just like that of the uninteresting male friend support role. Just fade to black and he's dead. I say he should have at least fought with him, at least have ran away and be killed in a more creative fashion, as he suddenly unravels the mysterious Jack's true aim, he realizes he will be the treat of this mad pumpkins trick. And then finally is found by Jack, who reveals to him, both his friends in candy form, overwhelmed by fear all he can do is look on as he is taken down by the mysterious Jack. That would've been good.

Everything else was brilliant, the rest of the plot, the animation, everything. A very good job. Despite dissappointment in their deaths and the uneasy audio transition, it is still very much worth the ten for all the obvious time you placed in this. That is what made up the extra point I would usually count off. Damn fine job.
