Reviews for "Echoes: Act 1"

Not bad

I just don't think that this is a finished submission. The controls were way buggy, perhaps allow a second button for jump rather than a double tap? Even to be able to move vertically on the map would help.

other than that, great storyline, and i love being able to switch between strategy and fighting. can't wait for the next one.

Great overall, but could use some minor tweaks.

Great graphics and overall game play. The different modes really showcase the different aspects of the game, and I liked the feel of combat mode and the focus on skill and timing to help an overall push. To further emphasize that, I think you had just the right number of weapons and abilities: enough to have options, but not so much that you're swamped deciding what to use. There's definitely been a lot of effort and hard work put into this, and it's obvious; the decent voice-acting and stats screen are also appreciated.

On that note, I have to say that there were numerous flaws each on a small scale that kind of took away from the enjoyment of the game. The story was a bit short, so it leaves the game a bit lacking, especially since the only other mode you have is Survival, which after a few waves becomes pretty monotonous. Maybe I just didn't try enough keys, but for cut scenes and dialogue a skip for individual lines would be nice since it wouldn't continue until the subtitles finished - which tended be long after the actual character stopped speaking.

For variety, I'd consider some other modes such as Custom or even 'Challenge' missions of some sort. Suggestions for survival and any similar modes to follow in the sequel: a kill count and an elapsed time. I could be the only one who likes having that visible though, so perhaps make it an option you can turn on? While I thought it was just right, it's always nice to have choices so consider implementing a difficulty setting as well.

Again, I thought the game was great overall, just look at ways that you can expand upon what you already have going for you while working on the little things. 7/10. I need room to give a higher score for the sequel, right?

Everything is workable but...

It would be better as a pure RTS. Instead of giving us the combat and strategy modes, just give us the strategy mode, make General Dem a hero unit capable of casting abilities on the battlefield and dishing out and taking more punishment than his fellow soldiers, but don't force me to command him. This became glaringly obvious on the third mission where you must defend a new base. My right side was broken through and I had to make the choice of getting Dem over there to try and fight off the invaders, or to build some new units to shore up the defense. I should have just been able to order Dem over there and then multi-tasked to build more units. Add to this the fact that the combat mode controls are little more than garbage and you get a broken game that isn't fun or challenging, its just frustrating. And that's a shame because the strategy mode elements from commanding troops, to even really nice touches like defense turrets that a soldier can dismount from get buried under this intense need to get Dem into the fray so you don't lose, but end up losing anyway because he is so slow and unwieldy.
I obviously expect an "act 2" is in the works, and I would suggest just scrapping the mixed gameplay all together and only keep the strategy mode elements because you honestly have the foundations of the best Flash RTS ever on your hands.

Great but
