Reviews for "The Deeplight Expedition"

Awesome game

awesome game, great story but i felt the end was a bit wishy washy and a bit thrown together to round things off. gameplay is good if a little buggy at times but a game that definately earned its 9 star rating

nice one

the game was well made, musics was nice. reminded me of one of my favorite games knytt by nifflas, good job mate!

Pretty enjoyable

Pretty fun game, and I always like pixelated flash! Glad it got saved.

good, controls are a bit touchy

Its a good game, has good length and depth to it. My only real gripe is the controls, sometimes they almost feel a bit too responsive. I found myself wall-jumping when i just wanted to move in a certain direction, I'd have preferred to hit up and the direction i wanted to jump... other than that, not much, it was a bit irritating that i couldn't jump on the non-spiky side of the things that drop from the ceiling.

oh, and @esq08: You could say the same for a countless games. I've played Knytt and it is similar in many respects, but it is unfair to trash a game simply because it was inspired by another game. Maybe the creator never played Knytt and simply made this game on his own after playing Metroid, Redder, or the countless other games this could've been inspired by. The truth is that tight controls, tense puzzles and pixel graphics are an easy formula for a good game. It doesn't mean they're rip-offs

Great game, couple of flaws

Great art, really fun gameplay, interesting story. Great mix of difficulty - some easy areas, and some really challenging ones. Clever level design. Lots of interesting traps/dangers.

Flaws: hit detection is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes you can get right up next to something (pixels touching) and not die. Other times you can be a whole bodywidth away from something and die.

And the commenter who mentioned following a precise order to get keys and open doors has a point: although you don't have to follow a precise order, there is a way to get stuck. I finished the game (found Darklight Stone) with 99% complete exploration, only missing one key. On the minimap I can see which room I can't access. According to Jez79's map, the last key I need to open that door is INSIDE THAT ROOM. So it's impossible for me to fully complete the game. I can imagine a scenario where you got the keys in an order which actually made it impossible to get the Darklight Stone. That's probably what happened to AhrimanOfTheLight. So while there's not a precise order needed to finish (lots of nonlinear ways to be successful), there are probably several ways which leave necessary keys behind doors, making success impossible.
