Not perfect, but good
Cheers for submitting this. It's always nice to see an animation done in the classic paper-n-pencil style.
You did well on the animation and art side for your first project and to be honest, the animation doesn't need more graphics to tell the story, you kept the look so that all the details had some kind of role in the movie, instead of trying to score in with unnecessary flashyness
My main critique is about the point the movie was making and how it told it. Its obvious your intention was to keep it short and simple, but the problem with short stories with a clear meaning like this is that they have only so much opportunities to utilize symbolism and so on to convey their meaning, and individual people may find these ways, depending on their tastes, good or bad.
I'm not exactly sure but I feel i got the meaning of the animation, its the classical "theres something good and bad about everything", and the struggle and co-existence of the of these forces creates the world we know, like the animation was in the end portraying the world as a field of the crystal flowers with random stuff from the city "evil"-side of the world, the good and evil aspects of it emerged as a unified entity.
Anyway, the reason I didn't give higher score is because I personally found the symbolism slightly awkward at places, the bad side was a lifeless, dark city with a robot emerging from there while the good side was portrayed as lightful nature and creation with a feminine spirit/creature meeting in the middle with the robot. Associating good with nature, life and females and evil as lifeless technology and so on is slightly cliché in my views.
To be more positive again, I liked the music you chose and it fit the work very well.
I may have gone way too far and overanalytic about it, and I'm not sure whether you or many other people feel the same as I do and find the points I were trying to make necessary at all. It was a short after all and you did very good work in driving the meaning you portrayed to the viewer, brief and simple as it was, I liked it overall.
You're a talented guy and I'd love to see more work from you, best wishes.
