A, Cheerio!
This seemed okay at first, and I liked how you put everything together: like the music, black and white pallette, and cutscenes.
Gameplay was nothing new or original, just a collect the coins platformer. I would like the addition of a high scores list to make the coins we collect, more meaningful.
Now for the cutscenes. At first they were funny, but later on they got really, really, REALLY annoying (especially when jumping a lot through jagged slopes). They in fact discouraged me from jumping and collecting coins due to the annoyance they cause, and I just wanted to finish the game completely. Make them appear WAY less often and you've got more points from me :P
Boring.
All the annoying cutscenes every time I jumped, landed, and got a coin was a major factor in how good this game was. If you made those appear less, people would have liked it a lot more. Any why this is rated T, while Mario games are rated E, I shall never know.
I give a six for a good idea and effort.
However, the captions, while cute and reminiscent of Chaplinesque comedy at first, gets old after you can't walk across a field for getting coins. Make the captions much rarer, and it'll be a great game.
Good Idea let down by annoying captions
1928 is very good at being a mario-like platformer with a funny plot and inventive style. I enjoyed the black and white set-piece and the funny charector and jolly tune. It reminds me of Charlie Chaplen and his funny tramp films. The captions provide a problem though and while being acceptible for conversations and totorials it p*ss me off that it happens everytime you jump,die collect a coin or murder a enemy. It mostley messes up your jump or the coin collection and makes the game less addictive and more boring. Overall a good little game that bours after about 30 mins.
