Reviews for "Raider: Episode 1"

an incredible game

Ok first off, let me say that its clear that you put a ton of work into making this, and I salute you for that. It's an incredibly fun game, and very well made. My one problem with it (why you didn't get a 10) was that it was extremely frustrating at some points. I understand that it was meant to be challenging, but one or two more purple checkpoints would've done wonders to make it more enjoyable. As it is, I was only able to get through it on beginner. Also, the last boss was the perfect difficulty, in my opinion... I just wish getting to him had been a tad easier

Right so doing into it, the minute i read that this game was meant to be "Challenging" I thought... And I quote, "Oh great, another developer that is going to use 'challenge' to excuse 'poor game design'."

After "DA Pink Knight" on Pice Day, I was becoming very disapproving of the games on newgrounds that were called "challenging"

But you honestly, blew my misconception away. This is a very good game, with just the right balance of challenge and reward. I loved the character himself, who's very original for a platformer mascot, to do along with the interesting setting. That alone kept me going dispite the difficulty.

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to finish, I spent too much time jumping in pits to look for secrets after finding that first one. But I look forward to the next 4 games.

I Think This Is A Good Game...

It is a good game as far as I can tell and reading other people's reviews perhaps it is just my comp, but there is slow down almost every where I go. Unless I am standing still, the frames drop dramatically making platforming jumps very hard, almost impossible. I tried to see if I had any thing running in the back ground, but it was still hard to play. I even tried playing in a pop up window with only that one screen running and no ads and that didn't help, so then I deleted temporary files and cookies, and tried again, but it still ran too slow when ever the screen "scrolls".

I give it an 8 because I couldn't play it, but it may be of no fault of the creator, unless he or she didn't check to make sure they had nothing jumbled up in the back ground or behind the scenes. Perhaps if I had a better comp this wouldn't be an issue, I am playing this game on an almost 10 year old computer, but there was barely any action so even still I am not sure why it is running so slow, I play other flash games (Besides fully 3D that require a certain graphics card.) just fine.

I like the idea of just one long level with future chapters promised. The controls were not complicated and I liked the nostalgia of it all, but as I said it is almost unplayable to me.

Pseudolonewolf responds:

It most likely is your computer (especially if it's 'ten years old'), though it could also be a browser-related issue if you're using something like IE.
The game is rather complex though and made with the relatively slow and clunky AS2 rather than AS3, and it uses bitmaps for most of its graphics rather than the faster vectors, so all of these are probably factors.

not bad!!

a very nice platformer, it even has a classic feel to it.

bleh boring. no color at all just grey. and only one sword attack?!??!? not very epic but i guess i just dont like these kind of games. but if i did, it looks like you put in enough originality and effort for an 8.
