Reviews for "Raider: Episode 1"

Heh.

Remenicant of megaman

whoo!

Very Nice

Reminds me of the games i used to play as a kid, you even managed to capture the frustrating difficulty of some of the old NES games. All in all a very nice game and I look forward to the next installment

Pretty Awesome

The difficulty of the game on easy wasn't too bad, though it was still challenging. It made me glad that I switched from expert fairly early on. Having at least one mode where you never have to start back at the beginning is nice, especially since you made the level so huge.

It was good overall. The boss battle was the most annoying part, because right when the bossgets low on hp it doesn't let you shoot it except for tiny little intervals and all you're allowed to do 90% of the time is dodge its pitiful ceiling attacks. That, combined with the boss having a lot of hp, made the battle 100% more boring.

I can tell that you put a lot of effort into the game, as the artwork and level designs were very nicely done. Even the dialogue wasn't cheesy.

I'm afraid that I'm not enough of a perfectionist to play through your game until I get a good rank, and I'm a little disappointed that a good rank could be required for any sort of good ending at the end. Sure, that rewards perfectionists for playing through your levels a million times, but if you are too harsh you will be punishing completionist gamers who want to just do/collect everything. And remember that your game *is* hard, and that even an "E" player who makes it to the end has put in a good deal of effort and deserves to see more than, say, everyone dying.

I guess my last comment would be that I hate excessively waiting for platforms, and there were two in particular which were really awkward and annoying: one would go off the screen for a whole minute and when it came back you wouldn't necessarily be in a good position to jump for it, since the platform you just dropped onto had moved out of position.

Pseudolonewolf responds:

The moving platforms have been thoroughly tweaked so that they're ideal for if you know the lay of the land and are going for a speed run thing; there's never any waiting involved more than a few seconds unless you delay for too long before reaching the platform or something. There's not really any good solution for this though...

At the end of the five episodes, there'll probably be three endings... maybe. One would be the 'awful' ending, but you'd have to do really poorly to get it (losing hundreds of lives, maybe?), one would be the 'normal' ending, and the 'S rank ending' would just be an extra little bonus rather than the ONLY good ending. Players would be rewarded for completing it at all instead of basically just told "ha! Not good enough!", because that WOULD be irritating, but of course it makes sense to make it just a little bit better for those who put their all into getting the best ranks.
I might just have two endings though; I haven't decided.
But each individual episode has the same ending regardless of your rank...

Great game!

really like the Style. The main character looks badass, I really like that you have a choice in using a sword or the blaster. my patience kinda ran out before I could finish it but maybe on another occasion. The music is freakin awesome!
