Reviews for "Don't Look Back"

Amazing

This is as much a piece of art as it is a game. The sound is what brings this all together, the high end rain, the strings with the 8-bit sound effects. The lack of high score, health bar and lives system makes the game feel a little more surreal. The brilliant choice of colour pallet also adds that much more effect to the game. The ending was my favorite part. It had the same kind of atmosphere I felt while at the height of shadow of the colossus.

I'd like there to be another, but this shouldn't have a direct sequel. if you can make another with the same feel, and only BARELY making references to this game, something stand alone for new players, and something reminiscent for the people who played this.

Anyways! Nicely done, if you ever do an update the only complaint I had was the hit box on the rope was a little too big.

This is one of the best game I've ever played online. Good job!

Greek Myths

I like the use of the myth about Orpheus in how you made the game. It was challenging, and that made it great. The part after you find Eurydice is my favorite.

orpheus

good game, did this in anyway relate to the story of orpheus and eurydice?

To NexTerren:

I believe in the end, when he sees himself standing at the grave, he returns to reality. In other words, he was daydreaming.
His mind left the grave and rescued his love from hell, but upon returning to the grave, he finds himself, still mourning the loss, and then the dream ends.
depressing, but it does make sense, and its not completely an easy out.
to me, saving his love by resurrecting the body or whatever would have been an easier, tho expected ending. This ending allowed me to think, and it carries a whole package of moods with it.
anyway, Nicely made game, one of my absolute favorites. this is minimalism at its finest, and played amazingly, 10/10/10/10 out of 10.

Like what you did here, but...

Put together well, level design was set up fun. It seemed to go from easy, to very hard, back to easy, etc. I would have liked it if there was more of a learning curve, and easier levels were just randomly thrown in. That, however, is a minor thing; I was able to get through the game just fine, and enjoy myself.

Retro graphics worked for it. Storyline, even in it's limited form was good, except the ending; didn't connect, and I can't say I understood it. Was that another reference to Greek mythology? I couldn't remember anything that'd make it make sense. Maybe I'm reading into it too deep, and there's no story at all, except that he doesn't really save his love. In that case, I'm not certain I like what you did; seemed an easy out, too simple, and not worth it.

Played it through twice, and it was about as much fun the second time through as the first. That being said, this wasn't some sort of fantastic game. It was fun, well put together; it was alright. Giving it a 7/10.
