Reviews for "Linear Assault"

great start

just to let you know, there are 'utilities' out there that can reverse engineer the source-code of any flash file. This is too solid of an engine to let slip away just because you don't have your original files =)

WarpZone responds:

Yeah, but I was under the impression that they only let you recapture the original movieclip objects, not the AS code.

Anyway, I've already moved on from AS2 to AS3. This game didn't use OOP or BitmapDatas for the main display objects... Just trust me, I'm better off recoding it from scratch, and there's very little here I would reuse in terms of art assets.

Suprisingly good

From the way you describe it in the comments, I thought it was going to be horrible, but it's pretty fun. If you ever do improve upon it, it'd probably be extremely good.

WarpZone responds:

Thanks. I don't have the source code anymore, but this is seriously what I consider the bare minimum for a flash game. Any future games of mine will be at least this solid in terms of control and collision detection. But also, I intend to do much more in terms of gameplay. More enemy types, a power-up system, secondary objectives, and at least one ending. This was just a fun little arcade game, made back in '05 when that was somewhat acceptable.

A good game if it's a prototype

I think this is a good game. it's a shame players can't live without their power-ups or their xbox styled games, but linear games like this are good (if by linear you mean side scrolling [aka: raiden, The Guardian Legend, etc]) but they do have a point. the music is simply to repeatitive and the enemies and boss fights are to simple. Create some back story, like maybe you are sent out as a first line of defence to attack an evading horde of alians, chasing them back to their leader to rid them from this part of the galaxy. Also, the background was to simple as well... try to vary it a little, like change it when it gets to a boss fight, which could also use some work as well. The boss fights change color as they take more damage, which is a plus, but maybe you could change that also, like show some battle damage (say the first boss starts to break apart, like a few engines blow out or show some smoke and fire trailing from it.) Also.. try to change up their attacks too.. If you need inspiration, play The Guardian Legend. It's an old nintendo classic but the boss fights are pretty awesome for an old style game. Like this one boss's attack is it shoots out homing missles that go one direction before targeting you, and it'll follow you for maybe 2 seconds before it stops following you and keeps going in that direction. It's just a suggestion but I think if you take and work on this game a little bit you'll make a classic Newgrounds game. Keep at it and just work it out. If you need some more tips just message me and i'll help ya out with it.

I voted under 8

I understand how much effort it takes. It just has a few flaws.

Certainly a classic style shooter.

This game is good, but it could use a few things. For one, having a score for how many units you down would be great. The addition of a few power ups here and there would fit well, and a health meter for bosses would certainly help.
