Reviews for "Linear Assault"

Boss battles are really annoying cuz they are too tough to kill
I like the graphics anyway.

Not bad

But why submit it now? it is very tiredest .The boss fights taking forever...that would be no problem if were are a challenge, just combine the attacks for example first boss the mg + red peas and also the laser peas would be more challenging if were flying in the direction of the player. Also the Background is not that bad just a little empty.Well the formations as you said are almost the same, thats sad but more fire power would solve the problem just let them shoot more than all 5 second . The control was good. Over all the game is a good start for a good scroll shooter. Do more with the bosses ad more stuff in the background and let them change in the level self you know fling over the ocean and than slowly arriving the land. Add some suicide ships they try to crash in your ship they will force the player act more. Change the formation from time to time and give him more movement and fire frequents and power and don't forget the score system this time. I hope you will make another one I would like to see more because that was okay it just need challenging bosses and levels some power ups and a cool soundtrack of course then you are on the main page in no time.

WarpZone responds:

Right. I'm not sure why I decided to submit it now. It was only okay in the first place, and it hasn't aged very well at all.

I'm sorry the boss fights take so long. I decided to make sure the player had exposure to each of the boss's bullet patterns at least once, but this is excessive. If you download the SWF and play it on your computer, the game actually goes a lot faster. (I suspect it's because the web page has to split the SWF ram between the movie itself and the other web browser content.) I know some things now I didn't know in 2005, one of which is "30 seconds of fun," and another of which is delta-timing.

Enemy firepower does advance as the game goes on. At the time, my goal was to balance the game so you could play it for hundreds of levels. In retrospect, I realize that wasn't the best design decision. It's not like a dungeon-crawler, you can't just keep escalating the enemy stats forever.

I promise my next shooter, when I do one, will be much better. I know who the good NG music artists are now, and I've played more shooters, so I understand the gameplay elements better now.

(Don't look at that awful halloween game, that was made under contest deadline duress! That's another thing I've learned the hard way: no contests!)

SO MUCH OLDSCHOOL!

Their is no power ups, level or anything like this. Its good for oldschool but sorry.

WarpZone responds:

Yup pretty much. Why do people keep repeating back to me what I said in the author's comments?

Generic game

same old, but no bombs

relativly fun for a while but....

after a while its starts to get boring as crap
