its alright
i gotta say it steps up the difficulty a bit much. if you dont your ship as fast, your bound to lose.
the controls are a bit annoying as well.
i have to say as well, that the gameplay is pretty basic. just button bash the keys to go in a straight line
Good concept, bad execution :(
1st: the music is bad. Really bad. Not only is it not piratey at all, but it's annoying as heck. Thank god you put a mute button in.
2nd: the controls are annoying.
3rd: once you have the money to buy the next best boat, but buy other stuff instead, you can start over. No way to go back and sell stuff to correct your mistake.
4th: Gawd, the controls are annoying.
And finally, when a ship only paddles on the left side, it doesn't go left, it goes right :)

The controls are a little sukky, the graphics are okay, music-wise, alright. But My fingers do start to hurt just trying to finish one of the stages.
Overall, not too good.

For the record, it seems I've made a habbit of writing reviews as I play through the game, maybe I just want to save time. Anywho;
First of all, the music, just horrible. Why the hell is everything rave now? Why not a sea shanty or someting? Is it because everyone is so damn talentless that they just throw together a few sounds on a computor and call it music? The controls were rather problematic, a pirate ship wouldn't have to row anyway, unless said pirates were vikings or somehing, and last time I checked, Vikings didn't have cannons. Right, back to the music now, I think it just became the sims theme, but thats neither here nor there, back on topic I think. Actually, back to the controls, I'm starting to get the hang of this, you need to keep it so both sides are rowing at the same time, simple, eh? The gameplay is actually quite fun, the graphics were a little disapointing at first, but hey, it's a top down race, they tend not to have good grahpics anyway, and surprisingly, I'm actually starting to like this, despite the historical innacuracy which usually I'd go crazy and kill several puppies about.
Overall, this is quite a fun time-wasting game, but if you don't like rave on a loop, do yourself a favour and turn the music off. Now, I'm going to play this some more, and that's bloody rare. Oh, and of course I wasn't serious about puppy killing, that's just wrong.
And for the hell of it, on a political stance here; Yarr, pirate be better than ninjas!
