Reviews for ""The Cottage" - (Credits)"

Great.

The detail in the art gives it an outstandingly realistic touch. The style is very non-cartooney and I love it. I can't wait to see the series but since this one took an unspecified forever it seems I'll have to.

Good

Vry good...

Great drawing and frame-by-frame animaton

i had the feel of something dramatic, the music worked well

When you move non-changing (like the hand) objects, it would be more advisable to use motion tweens, as its alot smoother.

also, i may be wrong, but i think you should increase your framerate.. what was it like 12?

Song is?

I agree with what Rotinaj had to say. The detail was epic and awesome and all, but with how slow things moved, and the unrealistic way the car turned kind of threw it off for me. It would have been better to put less detail in such things and have it move faster. But I will say, you are damn good at drawing. The only real thing that bugs me to no end is that I can't find the song you used! I looked through the bands site and even searched all of the lyrics their song and couldn't find it! The song is awesome though, and I'd love to go buy the CD it's on... if I could ever find it.

CMFalkenhagen responds:

The song is on a remix cd called Exit Lights by a band called Falling Up. The girl is a guest artist that normally doesn't do that kind of music, but sounds great on this track.

O.O

Your problem is, the amount of effort going into detail affects the effort in the motion of the characters, clearly you have a talent for drawing, the sounds were great but the movements weren't good and it was the only core let down.

All i ask is that you hold off on this movie, you need to put in more frames, animate smoother even if it decreases detail, unfortunately tweening isn't always the best way to animate it's very static, and smooth tweens come with a stack of layers for simple movements in some cases.

You might think it's taking you way too long to do the simplest of things, but welcome to the animation business, yeah it does it's faster than traditional means, yet it still takes an awfully long time even with traditional concepts in mind in computer animations.

so in a nutshell, i think you need to improve on your animation and not make it look so static..because in the long run people will care more about the animation than the drawing, after all it's what it's all about.

You've got the hardest aspect down, being the drawing the learning to animate is the easier part IMO so, just figure out what style suits you better, FBF tweening or otherwise, i suggest a vector camera especially for the scene with the car movement, it was awful slow. (sorry if you have it already it was hard for me to notice)

As for compression, in the main timeline you should contain animations in symbols (Graphics) you have more control over them, but you need to be aware of when different ones que etc, having loose drawings inside the main timeline really loads up on the file size, decreasing the amount of lines, and gradients is good too, convert lines to fills will make things look more authentic as well as smaller file size, adding scenes and having a clean timelines good too, just keep things layered, symbolised without too much going on at once to slow everything down, you'll be fine and make sure you save to compress when done.

And..last point reading your description or not, viewing this movie..some people should get a sense of what the trailer is getting at or what message it's giving, i didn't really see it, yet maybe it's really hard to get the message you want across, it's easy for you to see it for others, like me not so much, just keep in mind a lot of people are too lazy to read the description yet it's there problem i guess, it's no big deal.

a feature length..as a first project is very ambitious and you seem determined, you're doing really well for a first flash it's really really surprising, and good things will come from you, just watch your animation and the movements then watch some others, you'll know what I'm talking about.

good luck.

Claustrophobia

I didn't realize that claustrophobia was abnormal... i thought it was actually pretty typical... anyways
I thought it was pretty good overall. Not a huge fan of the animation or the way the video repeats.
