Before I say anything, this flash was pretty cool a real break from the stuff i usually see on NG. Lets just hope people arent gonna try this too, cuz i dont normally go to sites to interpret dreams.
Now for the dream, it probably has some significance, seeing that you actually remembered it, there is something up. Most people forget 90 percent of whatever they dreamed about when they step out of the shower. If you remember enough of this to make a flash about it, it probably means something. The way your dream was told, it all seemed like a metaphor.
The appearance of the man in your dream probably doesn't mean anything, it's just your subconcious making an "avatar" of sorts to represent someone (more than likely yourself) in this "filtered reality" I have had a lot of dreams where i looked at myself or maybe a sonic character or something like that.
Now for the running thing. You said your life was a shithole or something like that right? you might hate your job, or maybe there is something else that you hate to do but you have to do it anyway, even though the consequence does not matter that much. that would probably explain the volleyball nets appearing, since i dont really think volleyball threats would be much of a consequence to anyone. That throbbing pain you feel when the "avatar" runs could be the unpleasant feeling u have of doing whatever you do.
Now the flat trees are probably like that because when you daydream or have anysort of fantasy, the background seems sort of static, doesn't it? The same thing goes for the rain. The volley ball nets lining the road with the trees probably just shows that the irrational fear of whatever consequence ur trying to avoid is just static as well, and the consequence could easily be passed through.
Now in dreams you will understand things automatically that you wont understand in real life, because your brain made the dream for you, so thats why you understood that the item you saw was a checkpoint. The checkpoint might represent getting home from a crappy job or finding some sanctuary away from the unpleasant task you need to do. The lodging would represent your home or sanctuary. The fact that the walls are torn down might represent that not even this place is completely safe and the condition of it could represent that you dont like this place that much any way. It could also represent that whatever living you are making in life, it will not reward well and you know that.
all right I tried my best with this, and not to be an advice giver, but maybe you could change your lifestyle, maybe run off the path and find something new in life. Also ask god for help maybe and keep him in your heart and motivate you (that is if you are Christian).
