Good concept, meh presentation.
This game is really missing something. See, what sucks is that this game has pirates in it, and pirates = win. Ergo, this game should = win. But it doesn't. But it could.
One minor issue I had was with poking around through town: it's too slow. I'd rather have a drop-down menu let me select where I wanted to go. Another minor issue was the voice samples. These ones are loud and annoying. Find the right voice actors/actresses and alla this stuff'll be cool.
Hit detection on the map screen was kinda wonky. I could be sailing away from a city and receive notification several times over that I'd arrived in a town I was leaving.
Without a doubt, though, the biggest issue IMO was the sea battles. You can see well enough east and west, but you're damn near blind north and south. This has led to me colliding into an enemy vessel when I played, forcing me into an emboardment I neither desired nor could win. I'd recommend increasing the vertical resolution to improve visibility north and south.
