Reviews for "The Air We Breathe"

eh not terrible

The conceptual art was pretty cool, and fairly deep, but the visual art was not at all. You aren't a great photoshopper or animator, but you're a fairly good artist, I'd say. Not bad, all in all.

...

Makes no sense whatsoever, and Why are the people wearing Air Masks?

Nonetheless, I'm Protecting this ;)

It's one of those movies...

That you either really like.
Or really don't like.
And I didn't like it.
And this is why (it's long, so get a mug of tea and a biscuit before beginning).

It is an important message about pollution, fair enough, I get that pollution = bad. So do most people.
But, there was no real point. It was ABOUT pollution etc, but nothing in particular about pollution (except that it will all kill us eventually) and lead to the world being covered in oil? Will that really happen? I thought we were running out of the stuff, not drowning in it... Or was it toxic waste or an equivalent?
If there was a point, and I missed it, I apologise.
But, it was either such a complex and subtle point that I missed it. Or it was too vague and not concise, and so there there wasn't a huge amount to get anyway.

Leaving personal preferences aside, however, I liked your style. There were some good drawings, but not many.
It seemed to me that you just got photographs and tweened the living daylights out of them.
Admittedly, they were some nice photographs; but they were still photographs with some graininess put over the top of it, so that it looked like the reception was bad.
Your drawing ability is good, the spinning ambulance was very well drawn, and must have taken ages to do, and it was nicely done.

Leaving EVERYTHING aside, the message, personal taste, and flash making ability. Just talking about the animation in general terms:
It made me feel, I dunno really... It made me want a bit more, and not in a good, Kellogg's Chrunchy Nut kind of way. More in a sort of, "Was that it? What was that?" kind of way.
It was highly stylised and you obviously have a great deal of talent, so full marks for having that talent. But not many marks for using that talent effectively.

Overall, it was all right. Not great. Not bad. Just all right.
It was very arty and experimental, as you said.
But I don't think it was good because of it.
A lot of people are gonna not like me for saying this, but I feel that this point of view should be put amongst all the "OMG! POLLUTION IS THE WAY BAD :(! YOU PUT GOSPEL TRUTH INTO MONOTONE ANIMATION! YOU ARE KING OF THE ECO-WARRIORS!" type of reviews. And the "Wow, that spoke to me on a level I never knew existed. You have moved me with your poetic animation." type of reviews.
I haven't, admittedly, got any ideas on how to improve it.
But it seemed to me, like it was just a bunch of grainy little images and ideas stuck together and then immersed in black goo.

Blimey, that was more of an essay than a review...
If anyone has actually read that, well done...
But, seriously... If you have read this far. Go do something constructive now, or get some exercise. Or both.

Foxcato responds:

Thank you for taking the time to write this long and constructive review:)
