Reviews for "Autumn War"

really good but...

the auto retreat has to go. its mostly the cause of u losing the mission. everything else is fine but the auto retreat needs to be taken out.

this was a very fun game

it was fun and challenging though theres one thing I think you should change, the text, it's fairly small, and I don't neccesarily have horrible eyes but they aren't perfect, I had to somewhat strain to read things....

Almost perfect

This is an excellent game, and is one of the best I have ever played. I normally don't like strategy games too much, but Autumn War has changed my opinion of the genre.

There are a few problems with the game, however: the soldiers are somewhat craven at times, and their fighting ability seems to be random. In the description of the weapons, the Carbine is described as a "highpower weapon." However, a squad of soldiers armed with pistols sometimes performed better against a contingent of 15 zombies, with no casualties, than a squad of riflemen armed with carbines against an equivalent number. At times, the soldiers perform admirably... and at times, they fight like old ladies.

The automatic retreat can also be somewhat problematic. Ordering a retreat has never done any good for me, and when the soldiers take it upon themselves to retreat, it often leads to a chain of retreats that culminate in a massive zombie advance. It strikes me as interesting that the officers (the soldier closest to the screen in the squad) are invincible, whilst the man standing next to him is often the first one killed. You should make it that the officers can be killed, and such a condition will cause the squad to retreat. There should also be an option to force the squads to fight to the death (and a chance that they will obey.)

Having the zombies move faster in cover makes sense: the sunlight could be somewhat detrimental to them, and the shade of the trees makes them more robust. Nonetheless, I believe that they have too much of an advantage in some situations: they never retreat, they always fight to the death without any concern for self-preservation, and they fight well in close quarters. In some situations, the zombies make better soldiers than the ones you have available.

Finally, as someone else suggested, the RPG squads should be able to engage the zombies at longer ranges. I would also advocate the inclusion of a sniper unit, or designated marksmen who can be added to certain squads, to increase their range of attack. I believe that the vehicles should be based on cost, not time. Waiting 5 minutes for a tank is too long, as the squad for which the tank was purchased will probably never put it to much use. The tanks aren't so great either... I would rather have the ability to call in an airstrike.

Overall, this is an excellent game, and one of the best I have ever played: not just among flash games, but among all types. If you make a sequel, please include more soldier types, or at least an option to make your soldiers fight to the death. Perhaps the 'charge' order should make them fight recklessly, but the same increased melee ability as there currently is.

I'm not going to say what I think was said before,

but I always found it frustrating how my guys wouldn't kill the zombies closest to them first. and WTF was with the rocket launcher guys? they wouldn't continue firing! (and no, I don't mean when the zombies are close, they're at least smart enough not to shoot at a zombie at close-range) They fire, wait from 3-8 seconds, then fire again. What are they waiting for? They don't even need to aim that well.

good but hard

its a very fun game a good strategy game but i always get stuck on the 3rd or 4th level but other then that its very fun and if u like RTS then u will like this
