Reviews for "Fred the Notable Monkey"

Opinion from a Wikipedia admin

I am one of Wikipedia's 800 or whatever the number is now's admins.

In my opinion, Fredthemonkey is probably notable enough for inclusion.

But at the same time I don't like how you act like there's a wrongful holocaust of aspiring artists articles.

Although you may be notable, not every artist is, and trying to get a troop of people to go bug the site isn't the best way to go about doing things.

Picture it this way - you're reading an encyclopedia and your neighbors, your nephews, everything's in it.

Do you really want an encyclopedia to have an article on every little thing?

Wikipedia seems to have two factions, 'inclusionists' who believe we should have an article on everything, and 'deletionists' who thing everything below a certain alexa rank should automatically be deleted.

So basically, don't send waves of people to bug wikipedia since not everyone's like that. Kind of like not every American is the same...

I'll cast a keep for you on the AfD though, and if you want to contact me I'll be checking User_talk:Redwolf24 at the english version though I don't use the site too much anymore, and I've pretty much given up on it.

JKR responds:

Well thank you for taking the time to write your opinions to me. I'm sorry you seem to have missed the point of my cartoon.
I in no way care if Fred the Monkey or anything I do is featured in Wikipedia. I have not spent the last three years working every day to make a new cartoon a week for my site so I could be rich and famous (as is evidented by the fact I have not a single ad on my site, and the things in the Fred store at Cafepress are all pretty much set at base price). I do these cartoons for people to enjoy and maybe be a little bit happier in their lives as a result. That's it.
Now to tell me my life's work is non-notable certainly doesn't make me very happy, but it is your opinion (or the opinion of someone who said that) and that is fine. You are entitled to your thoughts. What I have a problem with it the method you are going about telling people your opinion. (Please note by "you" I mean Wikipedia, not you personally.) Several people in deciding upon Fred's deletion said things such as "Fail" or "NN" and that's all. I don't agree that this is the way to do things. If you have enough time in your day to sit around and decide what should and should not be included in Wikipedia, perhaps a little more research and compassion would help to inform people something like "Keep working at it, but right now the work isn't big enough to be in Wikipedia" instead of "Your work is worthless." Do not reply to people with things like "NN- see above" and leave it at that. For me, that is just a cruel way of telling people they aren't good enough.
Again, I do not care if my work is in Wikipedia. I will not go add it again, or tell others to add it again. And I certainly never had the goal to flood my own entry with "votes" to keep it. What is on the site is up to you. But please, if you do pick it back up again, try and remember that these people's entries you are deleting are real people just like you, and many of them work very hard at nothing more than trying to improve the world, as I'm sure you are trying to do as well with your work at Wikipedia.
Thanks again for taking the time to write a review. I appriciate you explaining your thoughts to me. =)

lol

i havn't played it yet but 10 cause wikipedia has everything

JKR responds:

I got perfect 10s because you like the site I'm fighting against the policies of? That's pretty interesting. =)
Anyway, I hope you liked the cartoon after you played it, and thanks for leaving a review.

Decent flash

Stop whining. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia. If you want to be noted in something for artists, make your OWN website. Or better yet, give me the cash and I'll do it for you.

JKR responds:

I'm certainly not whining. I am merely standing up for the belief that I don't think Wikipedia has any right to treat people the way they do. Not me, everyone. To tell someone that they "fail" as your means of saying "This is not large enough to be shown on Wikipedia" is rude and cold hearted. Have a little more compassion towards your fellow human beings, please Wikipedia. I don't care if I'm noted in anything, because I do the cartoons just to make other people happy. I'm not after shrines errected to me. I simply do not like the way they are doing things at Wikipedia.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, and glad you liked the cartoon okay.

Welll...

What you need is more publicity. Which you now have.
So if things don't improve from here, it means you just suck.

JKR responds:

I'm not sure how it means I just suck, but okay. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to write a review.

Good, but...

It was a really funny flash until I realized that you're actually serious about this.

If you think your website is "notable" then how come it only has 280 hits on Google, and no Alexa rating at all? That doesn't mean it's a poor website (and I really liked this flash, btw) but it's still non-notable. If you are confused about wikipedia notability you should check out the page where they explain that policy (search for "WP:WEB" on Wikipedia)

JKR responds:

First of all, I have no IDEA why there is "No data" shown for Alexa. And I can't figure out how to get them to show any data, because they even have a screen shot and full info for the site.
At any rate, I am not so much concerned with having Fred the Monkey appear on Wikipedia, as how the people of Wikipedia go about telling people they are non-notable. Artists who perhaps lack the drive that I do would be quite discouraged by comments such as "You fail" and "You are not worth it" so that is what I am fighting. They can explain it away all they want in their policy, but the simple fact remains that they need to do more research into the things they are deleting and have a little more compassion towards their fellow human beings.
Glad you enjoyed the cartoon at first anyway, and thanks for leaving a review.
