Reviews for "Fred the Notable Monkey"

Not that bad, but...

I actually thought that it wasn't too bad of a cartoon. I liked the humor, and the voice didn't irritate me as much as voices in some other cartoons do. My problem is with the message. Wikipedia does not have any obligation AT ALL to be nice and hold people's hands. Does MTV have a responsibility to host every garage band, because if they don't, then the garage band might feel that they're not good enough for MTV? If I wrote a book, should it be published, even if it sucks, because if it isn't published, then I won't write any more books? If Wikipedia users decide that Fred the Monkey isn't enough of a cultural phenomenon to be on the site, then there it goes. Personally, I'm more of an inclusionist, and find no good reason to delete material even if it is largely irrelevant, but I don't think that material should be kept on to simply be "nice" to the people who made the material. Seriously, if their exclusion from Wikipedia is what damages their psyches beyond repair, then they have more problems to worry about than their "unimportant" material.

JKR responds:

I also do not believe material should be kept just to be nice. I have no problem with things being deleted. I do not care at ALL that Fred the Monkey was deleted from Wikipedia. What I DO have a problem with is the method they go about it.
For example, if MTV called up garage bands that never asked to be judged and said "You guys suck, you'll never get anywhere" then I would have a HUGE problem with the policies of MTV. And yes, I have issues with publishers who send back meaningless form letters to authors that just say "Not interested." I understand they are busy, but there are better ways to go about rejecting people. If you tell them how they could improve instead of just saying "You fail!" then perhaps they could get better due to your advice and then we'd all benifit because we'd get something better in the end too.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and share your thoughts. I think I am also an inclusionist, now that I've talked to a lot of people about this, but even if things must be deleted, I feel there is a better way of telling people. =)

Lol

Funny XD *fave*

JKR responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I appriciate you taking the time to leave a review as well.

wikipidia sucks! (no realy)

this movie says it like it is, they let down (deleted) my freind and i almost failed grade 9 because of bogus information on their site---

funny movie, stylish and relivant humor, A MUST SEE FOR WIKIPIDIA HATERS! =)

JKR responds:

Sorry to hear about your trouble with Wikipedia. Sadly misinformation is easy to occur when you let anyone mess with your site as they do. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Glad you enjoyed the cartoon.

For the record, I'm an inclusionist.

Nice graphics.

Interesting point raised.

Okay lip synching.

The joke with the NDS amused me.

The characters seem interesting, with personalities.

Really a site? That's interesting...

Is it your own site? That seems a bit egotistic to me...

No. Wikipedia isn't the reason why 90% of artists give up their dreams.

I wanted to check the info. I couldn't easily find out if the platypus character did in fact have his own page. I still wonder. If so, that'd be interesting...

Fred's face could be more expressive.

Fred's voice seemed slightly whiny. I don't like him as a character.

Nice flash. I'm an 'inclusionist' personally (learnt that word from the review down below), but don't really think it's a big deal. I mean it's just a site.

Flash entertained, but I'd like links to the Platypus thing if it exists. Also, the link to the Fred the Monkey part of Wikipedia should be labelled as such.

JKR responds:

The Clydex the Platypus entry did indeed exist (not made by me I can tell you that) for quite a good bit of time. They recently deleted it due to being angry about this cartoon and the opinions I was sharing. Ah well, tis apart of life. I don't expect them to feature things that speak poorly of them.
Anyway, thanks for the detailed review. Sorry you don't like Fred much, but glad you got some enjoyment out of it anyway. I'll keep working on the characters and make them better. For the record, I did not mean Wikipedia was the reason 90% of artists give up, but that rejection in the form Wikipedia is USING is what causes them to leave behind their dreams. It happens everyday sadly.

Heh it sums up wiki pretty well

I know the feeling on wikipedia....they have a thousand word essays that ramble on about prasing He-man or Ash Katchem that seems to be noteworthy enough to keep, but find a website plug a waste of cyberspace be cause its not "nessicary information," but this is mearly the oximoronic nature of having the public control the eb and flow of infomation.

And the flash....It had some decent art that flowed nicely. Music could have been better though....the only real grip was that this was a hater flash. It was too specific in pointing wiki out and was basicaly a protest. It would have been fun (if childish) to have the monkey go nuts trying to take out wiki.

JKR responds:

Well I'm glad you got some enjoyment out of the cartoon anyway. Yes, it was mainly done as a protest, which I haven't done in a cartoon for a while. Normally they are more lighthearted with the only message being "Be happier!" =)
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to leave a review!
