Reviews for "Fred the Notable Monkey"

That was good, I liked it.One question, Why did you have aeris and leo from vg cats as a background framed picture?

JKR responds:

Oh I just added the VG Cats as a fun little easter egg in the corner there. I wanted to see how many people noticed them and knew the site. =)
Anyway, glad you liked the cartoon, and thank you for the review!

I'm making a sign - who wants to be on it?

That was a good cartoon. I've not seen any of your other work so I could just enjoy this for what it was. Fred's suit and sign made me laugh a lot.
Your artwork worked, and the animation and lip-synch were excellent. It was well produced, scripted and directed. I'll be off to check out your other work next, keep it up!

JKR responds:

Thanks! Yep, certainly check out other Fred cartoon, because I'm told many are even funnier than this one. =)
Thank you for taking the time to write a review! Hope you like the other animations as well.

Its good, but your point is stupid

Wikipedia is a website for definitions, but of course, this costs money, especially because of all the definitions and pics they have, you can even see that need to take donations to keep their site up. But then you claim they "take your page down for no reason" when it’s rather obvious: "it’s not getting any hits" (How often do you think anyone really searches for Fred the monkey on wikipedia?) and the information can all probably be obtained from your site, it’s not needed. And then you seem to say that wikipedia just says you suck because of the lack of reason, your only up for deletion (And I think now it’s deleted, and you platypus is up for deletion now) if people really want your article back, they'll request it, and the only reason people are going to request it is because of this flash, riding your popularity in order to get back into wikipedia. And finally you act as though wikipedia is a site used for the discovery of artists, which if you need to be reminded, it’s an encyclopaedia, not deviantart.

But as for the flash its self, it was okay, nothing too special though, decent graphics and okay sound (Don't like the monkey's voice though)

JKR responds:

Yes, many people don't like Fred's voice. But that is the one he was born with, so he can't really help it. =)

Anyway, I think you missed my point in the cartoon a little. I was not whining about how my entry was deleted. In fact, I do not care in the slightest that it was. That is up to Wikip edia and its members.
What I have a problem with is the blatent disregard for the person behind the entry and how they are treated. I got several comments such as "You fail!" or "Not worth the time of day" and that is what makes me angry. I did not put Fred up on Wikipedia, someone else did. So I did not ask for them to judge my life's work. And while I can certainly take these comments, too many young artists would potentially give up because of such harsh words they never asked for. It would take very little time more to offer encouragement for something that is not quite at Wikipedia level yet, and that would be much more helpful to the person being deleted than "delete-nn" and nothing more. So I merely request they remember there is another human being who is on the other end of the entry, and they might feel devastated not by Wiki's decision to keep them or not, but by how they are spoken about during the deletion process. That's all.

Thanks for the review, and sorry you only thought the cartoon was okay. I'll try harder next time around, and hope you like that one more.

Very Funny!

An example of nonviolent humor. This is hilarious, considering that Fred is going to have his entry deleted. Great job, as this is going in my favorites.

JKR responds:

Thanks! Having something wind up in someone's favorites always makes me feel like what I'm doing with my time is worthwhile. =)
Thanks a lot for taking the time out of your day to write a review!

Good animation

Realize that wikipedia is trying to compete against things like encyclopedia Britannica and stuff, and won't keep entries that make it look silly or unprofessional, and having an entry about Fred the monkey, as great as it is, is looked at with scrutiny and stuff. Anyway, that's why it's probably on the chopping block.

JKR responds:

While I can see your point, they do have entries for things such as Homestarrunner and other Flash cartoons that are for nothing more than entertainment, so I don't see how silly things like that can be exceptions.
Regardless, I'm not very concerned with getting Fred into Wikipedia, but moreso I would just like them to speak to people differently. I got many comments such as "Fail" or "not worth the time" and how is that professional? It is not. With a tiny bit more work, these people could offer suggestions to the people they are deleting to help them improve, instead of hindering them with rude and impersonal comments. Just my thoughts anyway.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to write a review! I'm glad you liked the animation.
