good series, but could be a lot better
Having seen all the sessions in the XIN series, I have to say that the two words that most often come to my mind are "wasted potential".
Now don't start throwing things at me right away; let me qualify this remark. The series does have many excellent elements to it: decent fights, good graphics, dynamic characters. And for any fan of violence-centered plotlines this is pure gold.
But for me it simply comes out as far too predictable. First off it gives us a setting of different schools where students engage in violent bloody brawls to control the campus (lets face it, it HAS been done before). Secondly, each session usually unfolds in the same manner: new character, fight, plot twist, fight, another character and yet another fight. It was cool for awhile but now...its just too lackluster for me.
In addition I would like to comment on the audio. While decent on the music (nice punctuation on fight scenes), I REALLY wish the animators had stuck with actual voice dialogue. This is the type of animation where voice intonations could raise its quality tenfold. (And if it was done in say Chinese or Japanese, the subtitles would feel a whole lot less awkward).
All in all...well put it to you this way. Fans of the XIN series, this is a good session and you won't be dissapointed. And for the rest of you...if you like violence with a little thought behind it, go for it. But don't expect a huge deviation from its current course.
