I have a new question. The review guidelines seem a little dated. Since many users refer to the FAQ and wouldn't know or even think they would have to look in the forums for additional rules that are not in the guidelines, Is there any chance of an update that includes these rules.
The review moderators are moderating based off of the review guidelines found in the FAQ, not any other sort of secret set of rules. This thread is here because the guidelines could never fully cover all instances which would cause a review to be deleted, and since you don't get a personal message from a review moderator unless you are receiving a review ban, this is a good place to bring your reviews you've had deleted and ask what rules it was breaking.
The whistle status Part of the faq also refers to the old system we had before the redesign back in 2007 when we could see the number of people who flagged the reviews.
that was also a bit misleading, as that was simply a x/y of how many people found the review helpful/unhelpful. The numbers were skewed because people flagging reviews was counted as an "unhelpful", the new system is still the same sort of idea, in that if people flag your review or mark it as unhelpful, you will get a message saying "people find your review useless".
But alas, we are merely moderators and cannot edit the FAQ.
I also have a suggestion. Because so many people are getting garbage whistle by flagging older reviews which is not even stated in the FAQ at all, Wouldn't it make sense and possibly save everyone a lot of trouble just to delete those reviews without rewarding points? It makes more sense than always clearing the same reviews over and over and would probably save you all quite a bit of stress.
I have no idea where you got this misinformation but you will never, EVER receive negative points from flagging an abusive review which happens to be old.
If you are referring to some of us trying to guide Rage's abusive review thread to be less a cesspit of rabid statwhoring and more a helpful tool for us, we may have asked that people refrain from linking to old reviews, but we have never penalized people for flagging old reviews.

My question is are these reviews considered abusive? My rational is that they are often (1) cut-and-pasted and (2) are not actually reviewing the submission.
Thanks.
they aren't helpful, but they fall under the same sort of area as people leaving codes to custom levels for other submission. I wouldn't delete them myself. Other moderators may feel differently. It is sort of a jerk thing to leave spoilers in a review, but with popular games, like ones with medals, the review will be off of the main page pretty quickly.
