Melvins

Oh, I find these guys to be just terrific. They started out in the early 80's, their genre was dubbed "Sludge" a precursor to Grunge. Kurt Cobain was friends with The Melvins prior to forming Nirvana, even auditioned to be their bassist, but was so nervous he couldn't play properly. Nirvana wasn't the only band they've influenced, many Punk acts, and Grunge bands such as Soundgarden apparently enjoyed listening to The Melvins. They've even influenced Tool and are personal friends with the band. "King Buzzo" lead singer/guitarist of The Melvins became a part of Mike Patton's (Faith No More, Mr Bungle, ect) super group Fantomas. Jello Biafra of the punk group "Dead Kennedy's" also did a Collaboration with The Melvins.

Their sound is slow, destructive and incredibly powerful. I'd suggest checking them out if you're into any branch of heavy rock music, or a fan of any of the bands mentioned.

Also, King Buzzo and I share a similar head of hair.

Bullhead is probably my favorite Melvins album, the song "Zodiac" being my favorite song on the album.
Glad to hear someone else here has heard of them, though I don't understand why other users aren't posting their opinions or showing interest. Perhaps this will get things to change;

You should listen to the album "Houdini," probably their second strongest album.
The album "King Buzzo" is by far the weirdest Melvins album I have heard, very short but highly unique.
Just got their latest album "A Senile Animal," sounds good so far, haven't listened to it in it's entirety, just mixed the songs into my vast playlist.
Unfortunately the only original member left in The Melvins is King Buzzo himself. Of course he's the most important, and they never really had a stable Bassist...

FUCK YEAH, guys, taking a break from my alcohol intake to check on this topic. To my surprise there are a decent number of honest replies. As for checking out their discography, I only have 13 of their albums, Honkey doesn't play the last song completely, so I'll reorder that one next month. They have quite a few albums, and I'll doubt that I'll ever be able to own all of them. Right now I'm working on re-buying the around 30 some odd CD's I wrecked during my pot smoking escapades in the woods. Anyhow, Melvins FUCK YEAH! Beer, FUCK YEAH! Weed, FUCK YEAH!

the Melvins are my Beatles, I found out about them through Mastodon and just fell in love. Bullhead is possibly my favorite album, I made a youtube vid of their song "if i had an exorcism" a long time ago when i was bored.
