Ever seen the list of how they determine the playoff rankings (and who even makes it) for the NFL? There's like 9 or 11 rules, and the last one is Coin Toss. This whole situation puts me in mind of that.
I remember seeing the bad coin toss for an NFL game. I was with family. The Ref blew it. I hope that never happens for any of the list here.
Ah yes... but that was a coin toss before a single game (or before overtime)... to determine who punts and who receives and which side of the field each team starts from...
The coin tosses for playoff inclusion/positioning Dogma spoke of are not done on a field, they're done in an NFL office, and they're not done by referees.
And BTW, coin tosses for playoff situations are done WAY more often in baseball than in the NFL. This year, for example, the 6 teams that had a chance of being the NL wildcard team (Houston, San Fran, Chicago, San Diego, Florida, and Philadelphia) all had coins tossed to determine where a one-game playoff between any of the two team combinations would be held (My Astros would have had to play on the road for ANY of those ties except for with Chicago, where it would have been at home... BAD luck with the coin flips... but it turned out not to matter at all!).
For some strange reason, they didn't bother to include Los Angeles in the coin flips... even though as the final weekend started, LA (the NL west leader) could have been tied with Houston for the Wildcard lead at the end of the season... if San Francisco had only won all three games vs LA.... They were waiting until that coin flip HAD to be done, apparently. :::rolling eyes:::
