Paladin The Game: Progress

hey guys
been working on the PALADIN game for roughly a week now
thought I'd show a screenie and get some feedback from the layout.

it's a sidescroller, spells, levelups, different character progression etc.

tell me what you think of the grafix style. u reakon i'll get smashed in reviews for using the health bar influenced by Diablo 2?

no dude, not at all. when im playing a game, i like comfort of what's going on, so that is something people are adjusted to, and use to.. so i like it.

I see your starting it as you started the movie, i saw you should play clips on the movie in the game.

Yeah great idea, cutscenes and stuff makes a game even more fun to play

Will you get flamed? - By some people yes. So if that's a problem for you, change it. But I personally believe in the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". So if you like it this way, keep it.

yeah the game will be divided into ACT's, around 8 or so. in between each act, is a minimovie, introducing the next act and the story's progression. it'll be kewl coz it'll be like the snippets of episodes youve seen but done a lot better and crisper

and yeah.. spose it will get a little flamed as everything is...
personally i love the diablo 2 style layout

Well it looks good to me! I don't see much problems! And besides I've played Online RPGs resembling your project!

The gameplay would be the one I'm expecting here, since it almost looks like Adam Bohn's(usually known as Artix von Kreiger) Adventure Quest RPG! I hope it's original!

And no, I wouldn't hit you about the Diablo health bar! It almost looks nice!

as for demo's and ng mag, the game isnt developed anough to really brag on. sure i got one pretty picture but the game will be huge so i need to work my but off for another 2 months at least.

also... isnt the NG mag page like, never updated or lookd at? lol

Yeah I'd like to know who you got on board as your coder.

I don't think you will get any flaming for the use of the Diablo style health bars it's a fairly familiar style so people will be comfortable.

i know his stuff on newgrounds doent look that great, but for the 50 or so people that applied to the job, 10 stood out. i gave 10 a practical test, to see who well they work with material i gave them ,and how fast they wrok, and this guy blew me away. took loads of initiative, and made some incredible stuff, with the little that i gave him.

with his help you'll be getting a really great game guys.

Just from that pic the game looks very interesting. I like the graphics and the way I see it, its probably gonna have a nice story to it too.

I don't think anyone would go crasy because you added Diablo 2 ideas...besides ppl get ideas from other games and stuff.

I doubt it. You've taken inspriation and used it for your game. Maybe if you were realsing this as a big comercial game, as in sell copies, then yes. But i highly doubt you will get flamed for something like this.

It's looking great. The art is superb, especially with the little details, like having lines etched in squiggles all around the health bars, etc.

I'm worried about your framerate. There's some gradients and filters going on and it's a big game. Is it starting to slow down yet?

the health bar is awesome i didn't even care it was diablo style
i mean everyone steal some ideas in their movie\game
but the health bar is not the problem.....its look just like adventure quest...i hope it isnt like it and if its really good and it will secced then sell it like Adventure quest did you sure will make profit and than you could work on bigger things...

well in response to the questions about lag and floating dummies, both will be worked on. the reason they look floating is that every phisical object has a shadow, like the boy, priest, boxes, etc. as for lag, it's not too bad as the background bricks and floor are just repeated small images. also, my scripters optimising it all the time to make it faster, and it'll be on medium quality

Don't tell us it's Diablo influenced, and most people won't gave shit about it.

But, the game looks extremely promising.
