Alien Hominid!

Ok, I've accidentally let the cat out of the bag on several occasions (I was never supposed to mention the game nor the platform), but we're finally going public with the news... YES, we ARE working on ALIEN HOMINID for the console systems! In fact, we are working on versions for all three - PS2, XBOX and Gamecube!

It has been a crazy ride so far, and we are pushing hard for a Christmas release. Synj and the gang from San Diego will be at Comic Con, booth number is 4028. I won't be able to make it out to the west coast this time around, but if you are there you can meet Synj and get some rad Alien Hominid stickers!

In other news... Sorry for the continued sluggishness of the servers. It turned out our software upgrades didn't account for the SQL caching we needed, so we had to upgrade the software EVEN MORE, to all sorts of INSANE LEVELS OF ENTERPRISE EDITION SOFTWARE MAYHEM. James has been on the phone with the PHP guys in Israel on a regular basis, doing everything possible to pump the most power out of our back-end systems.

The new database server should be upon us shortly, and as mentioned previously, it's a beast. It's gonna take your queries and put them in a headlock and make them cry unkle(sic). Of course, the poor webserver farm is still struggling to keep up, but once the twins arrive and we get a new switch, that should be eased up a bit. Not to mention the old decomissioned database server still has some muscle left in him, and he'll be pulling webserving duties as well. We may try to get on a recurring schedule of buying new webservers EVERY MONTH, because once in a while just isn't cutting it. We need an army!

Will the Alien Hominid game have synj industries/Newgrounds logos included in it, or will the whole whamjam be absorbed by the game company producing it? Imagine the effect a simple "www.newgrounds.com" with NG Tank would have if it always appeared at the beginning of the game with all the introduction stuff...

It's 2D, and Synj's updated characters make the original look like crap in comparison!

Contratulations, Tom. I would've expected it to be a GBA game, but you managed to get it on the big 3, which is quite an accomplishment. Dude, if this works out, do Pico 2 next. I will pay for it! That's incredible, Tom! One more awesome creation for all of us. I doubt you'll answer any production related questions here (like your programming role, etc), so I hope you include something like that upon the release of Alien Hominid (within the game or at this site) - you can be sure all the NG fans will want to read it.

About Newgrounds. I get the extreme load message from time to time, but the speed is great. I do get to see pop-ups, but they're necessary - I think I'm the only fan who isn't complaining about them. Go get 'em, Tom!

This is an exciting development for newgrounds. I wonder if in the future more ng favorites will make it to games or even tv series.

Think of the site in ten years when producers from all mediums can look here for promising and original artists like synj. Newgrounds could become a powerhouse of normalcy. Media that comes directly from the populace instead of from just the upper class could dominate the national audience.

Now with the audio portal the showcase potential of the site has expanded greatly. If unsigned bands start catching on they could advertise entire albums here and eventually you would have an ng record label.

It's amazing how a little fanzine has become the missing piece of the technology puzzle of the 21st century. Now not only does nearly everybody have the tools to create any kind of media with proffesional quality, but they have a place to get that media seen and possibly broadcast to a national audience.
