You're totally right, and I was worried about that as well. If you look at the time I submitted, it's 01:10AM EST which means I only missed the deadline by an hour. I had asked Tom about the deadline a couple of hours before midnight and he said that they were going to accept any entry that came in before Christmas so not to worry about it. :)
(Though I completely agree that the rules should be clear and that the actual deadlines should be clearly posted for it to be totally fair)

Well based on the last two contests, you had to use a special preloader, link to the corresponding collection somewhere and say 'Happy whatshisface from Newgrounds' or something. I wouldn't bet against a valentine contest being just around the corner.
