How do you find the time to write all those things?

I can actually write this stuff rather quickly. The Barracks Manifesto, for example, took me about 30 minutes of actual sit-down typing. Granted, I was doing other stuff at the time, so it took me about 2 hours total, on and off. Like I said, most of this is actually just writing down on paper what was already fleshed out, so it comes easily to me. Grad school groomed me well for writing exorbitant amounts of text in relatively short amounts of time. :-)

Are you kidding? It's probably easier than it ever has been in the past now. More and more people are joining the site every day. Compared to 4 or 5 years ago I'd say the flow of flashes into the Portal is at it's highest within the past couple of months. Although I could be wrong.

I disagree. In my heyday of B/Ping, star-pacing was easy. Of course, it depended on how fair your voting was...

But the problem is that there's also a lot of spam. Even if there are more flashes, it's still hard to get to EGSC voting fair nowadays. Still, I'll get there in... 2 years or so.

The Portal is slower than in, say, 2005, but it is much harder voting fair, too. I can only gross 50-60 B/P a day where I used to make 150-160 a day (for roughly the same amount of time on the Portal).

I'm keeping the DEFCON where it is (DEFCON 3), becuase the Portal has slowed down again. We saw a good amount of action this afternoon and evening, but that wave has waned. Today has been an eventful day I suppose. I got up, went to school, played with a rubber chicken after school with friends, and came home. It was my mom's 50th birthday today, so me and the rest of my family really spent most of today together.

I should be a lot more active once school gets out next week. I vacation from May 30th-June 9th, but after that the only thing that will keep me off Newgrounds is work and friends. So I should be able to do a lot more stuff for the Barracks around that time. Also, I'd like to congratulate EagleRock on successfully joining the Portal Guard! That makes 5 members in the EGB who have been honored to join Wade's prestige organization! :3

Well sorry for the inactivity on this extremely busy day, I had an hour of chem tutoring because I have a huge test tomorrow, and then immidiately after, I had an hour of math tutoring. So yeah school keeps me unfortunately busy these days.

EagleRock man, I'm totally lovin the SBA (state of the barracks address for all you acronym challenged numbskulls). I believe it lays an unyielding foundation on which to build our unstoppable cause: the improvement of the flash portal. Again I really appreciate all the effort you put into this place, and I'm sure everyone else does as well!

Reviving the podcast sounds like a great idea! I like the sound of that and I think it would be a more personal way to solve problems or ask questions that kind of thing. So yeah I'd like to help out in anyway possible with that just let me know what I can do to help!

Again EagleRock your dedication to this place truly amazes me, the forum (which I hope is under construction) sounds like a wonderful plan. I have a feeling that this will be a huge success and will be nice and organized.

I've just started my shift on the portal, and a bit later on (after I've done a bit of work on my university applications), I'll have a look at drafting up a preliminary new format for a TWO-POST ROSTER!

Don't get too excited though - the roster on Tuesday will be the same as it was this past week, as it's Joshiwa's duty this week. I'm hoping to reveal my grand expansion the week after, though (5/27), so make sure you're watching for the roster carefully, and keep giving me ideas!

I'm getting kinda sick of plugging that thread, but I'll persevere with it right until the end of its use. For everyone who's already left ideas and comments, thanks very much. For those of you who haven't, get on it!

Sorry Safety Patrolman, but the requirements to join the EGB are the rank of Private, which equates to 2,500 B/P points.

Once you reach the rank of Portal Security, you can apply to join the NGPD, and from there, if you have a genuine interest in joining us, you can join the EGB as a Guardsman.

Newgrounds Department of Defense Report - Week 1, Friday, May 16, 2008
Introduction
This will be the first of a weekly report coming from what I have seen in and around the Newgrounds Department of Defense during my time periods there. Sometimes they will be long, sometimes short, but either way I plan on bringing both us and the EGB closer. I would also like to extend an official "Thank You" to EagleRock for giving me this important duty.

A Quick History of the Newgrounds Department of Defense
I will start off with the information about the NGDD that some of you may not know, or may not have caught up with as being EGB members. This isn't so much meant to be a full history of the NGDD, but an update since we rebuilt the NGDD a couple of months ago. In December 2007 we did an "NGDD facelift" after Phantom had left us and we were leaderless. The new leader for the time being became Cole, and I became the Second-in-Command as well as an Admin. During this "facelift" period we created newer requirements so that more members could apply, as well as a new ranking system based on XR (Experience Ranks). The transformation from the old NGDD to the newer one was smooth and went very well for a couple of months.

Admins/Department Heads
I wanted here to introduce to all of you each of our Department names as well as the NG member who is the Head of the Department. We do things differently from the EGB, as most of you know, and I'll explain as I go along.

Commander - AnalPenguinFarming

Portal Department - MrFinland
BBS Department - DarkSoldier
Flash Department - RSQViper
Audio Department - --------------

As you can see from the list (I apologize for how sloppy it looks but I'm in somewhat of a rush) the members are some of the best and most qualified for their positions. If any of you would like to see our NGDD user with all of the information, you can find it

Current Status:
Currently the NGDD is not in too bad of shape. We have had a boom in members in the past couple of weeks, and even picked up two new Audio Department members. Our only main problem up to date is the lack of an Audio Department Head. Other than that we have the usual problems with members constantly leaving or going inactive, but nothing out of the ordinary going wrong.

I apologize for the sloppiness of this report, but the next one will be much better because I will not be in as much of a rush to go somewhere. I promised a first report tonight to you all though, so I did not want to go from my word. If I've missed anything important feel free to contact me via PM and I'll get back to you instantly.

I'm glad you liked it. It's only fair for us to have a proper plan for improving in the future. But like I said, my next contribution to the Barracks will consist of a brand new forum for our Barracks that are as complete and secure as possible. I need to build up a server network on my VM server to host the services necessary, but phpBB is quite easy once the servers are running. I plan on getting some time tomorrow to at least set up the servers and get the ball rolling.

Well, the way I see it, I wasn't around this whole time. It was the members that kept this Barracks strong this whole time. I am very proud of this place and love to be here, so really the best way to express it is to do the best I can to keep things great around here. :-)

Thank you so much for that great update! As expected, you exceeded my expectations (figure that one out). You certainly helped set the baseline for future reports, bringing the Barracks up to speed on the state of the NGDD. I consider it very important for us to be actively interested in our allies' affairs, and these little updates (well, this wasn't so little or trite, but you get the idea) really help that along.

Well I am completely exhausted, as tonight in Clifton was the Relay For Life that I volunteer for. We run laps around Clifton Stadium to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Great cause and all. NATURALLY, it decides to POUR during the event, so we had to cut it short, and we were basically able to do nothing. I did, however, have a great opportunity to get my socks wet. :-)

But I am going to try to wind down and get to bed soon, but IM me if you need me...

What do you mean by a "filtering Portal"? If you mean some pre-Portal judgment of an author by mods... Someone could start by submitting something good and then turn to spam, when the hypothetical mods would no longer have a chance to stop them. If you mean another Portal, that would just get clogged. So what, exactly, do you mean?

I think a podcast would be cool, like an update for what the major events of the week were, just in case for some reason someone missed it. I think it would bring more life to the barracks to hear some of our prominent member's voices. It will also take the ease out of reading a lot of text. Well Corporal Pinoyguy75 checking out for the night.

As far as the podcast thing goes, I'd possibly be interested in getting involved in that - although there are one or two issues ATM, namely that my current daily-usage computer (a Mac mini) has no in-built mic, and I don't have one I can plug in, so I'd have to wait until either I get my old laptop fixed or I get a new laptop. Also, you guys would have to be able to deal with my british accent ;P

New forums sound like a nice idea. I really would like to see people being more active on the EGB forums, but apparently there's not enough interest or incentive to post over there. I guess that's fair enough - I myself have been trying to make a bit more of an effort to get things moving over there lately, but I still only have 25-30 posts on those forums, so I can't claim to be super-active. I do browse our forums occasionally, though, if for nothing else to check that there's no spam that needs clearing out.

Hopefully if EagleRock can sort us out some shiny new forums with a more NG-like theme, then people will be happier to post there. Communication between members is really important, so the more we associate with and talk to each other, the stronger a group we will be. What's the point in having a group full of strangers?

That being said, I made a thread in our forums about EGB members getting AIM, in the interest of being more communicative with one another. If you haven't already, bookmark that link to our forums so you always have it and thus can visit it more often.

I think that's pretty much all I have to say for the moment.

Patchy at the moment, I've got my last two exams this week (for university finals :S) so really I shouldn't be on here at all. Thankfully most of my credit this semester came from coursework though, so they aren't as bad as they could have been. I'm off on holiday for a few weeks after that, but come the end of June my activity should go up a bit again...

Depending on when it is I'd be up for it, though I don't have a mic on my comp at home so I'm not sure how easy it would be. I'll look into it.

I just completed the reviews for review request club. I wrote like 7 audios reviews in one go maybe, not such a great idea as my brian gone dead. Still its fun and makes me more famliar, with the audio portal which i hardly ever visit.

Sorry civilian, you need a B/P rank of Private (2,500 B/P) to join the Elite Guard Barracks.

You can join the NGPD, though, when you reach the rank of Portal Security (500 B/P), and then join the guardsman program here.

Sir i just got my first ever ban for reviews for three days. I was so shocked i got a ban because i gave it o out of 10, as it did not work . I did not know that was aginnst the rules can someone tell me when you know when its ok to review again. Its typical to get one now when i just joined the review request club

Sad to hear it, but I really think that the mod in this case went overboard. That was not a bannable review. Deletable? Yeah, but certainly not a bannable offense. I wouldn't sweat it, man. I got banned once for some dumb reason, too.
