There should be awards for getting front page. Also, there should be an award for getting number one of all time for one week in a row, then 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, and so one. Also, ther should be personal messages users can send to other users as an alternative to emailing or AIM.

Some Ideas of Mine (and others)

Update the games gallery... THere are many good games that aren't there yet.

Propose a LoTR collection of NG stuff.

Can we add in more levels? Maybe go up to 50 levels or something... it takes months to go up a single level these days.

More Portal awards--perhaps a most viewed award, or a front page award, a "blue ribbon award" for an average of over 4.50 for a day, and a another turd award for an average of 1.00 per day.

After three Years, BlueMax returns!

Yay!

What ever happened to the post where he'd promise all of the things that would be on NG in 2004? What about that thing where authors could update there own series page.

You two seem to have different memories to me - I don't recall Tom ever making any promises about that stuff. Just hints that they were what we were aiming to achieve. Goals and aims shift according to other workload. Not a difficult concept to grasp.

Alternatively, this could happen when you're funding the site in every aspect.

What should be the goal for newgrounds for 2005?

Well, same as always Pinky.. To try and take over the world...

...errr?

Nah seriously, keep up the fast servers, maybe make a different section where people can upload other stuff besides flash.... i dont know. I think this site is close to perfect anyway. Oh yeh, reduce popups!

Maybe a Newgrounds official MMORPG?

I dunno, that sounds like that it will take a lot of work...

I think Pico 2 should finally be released.

Response to Happy New Years! 2005-01-03 21:22:31

I think the ng message system is a good idea like bbs you could call it like nms or something like where people can communicate within newgrounds if their working on flash or chatting or whatever. Also the different color auras sound tempting.

Response to Happy New Years! 2005-01-03 21:23:30

PICO 2! Pico 2! Pico 2!

I can't believe you missed the "Year of the Sequel", 2004, for Pico 2! So I think you should get Pico 2 done. Also, I would like to see the ablility to make "series" pages yourself for your own movies. It wouldn't be placed on the Series page, but it would allow people to put their series on on page despite the fact they arn't really popular yet. Maybe make it so only people with, say, 2 or 3 submissions over 3.00 on there score. Also, the audio portal could get a facelift, maybe make it a whole new site that works like Newgrounds but for music! I would also support apointing Portal moderators who can change the rating system to make it more accurate, because many people do not know what consitutes violence, bad language, and sexual content.

I nominate myself, being a hero of good grammer and good taste.

Response to Happy New Years! 2005-01-03 21:40:00

Here are the goals i believe should be in store for newgrounds in 2005.

1.) Change the layout of the profiles and the other pages on newgrounds so that they are one design.

2.) Add more levels... have it go up to about 50 levels.

3.) change the part in the NG profiles that says... "favorite flash movies" to "favorite flash content" because it can be either a movie or a game.
WAIT A SECOND.... i just talked to liljim about this and he fixed it to this. w00t.

4.) Pico 2 for the PS2??? (make it 3D)

5.) More ways to increase Voting Power.

Response to Happy New Years! 2005-01-03 21:42:28

I'd still like the 2 things I asked for last year - being able to preview your posts on the bbs (very practical when using code) and more e-mails.

I'd like to be able to select from a large number of options - being sent notifications of new reviews for my submissions, being sent new responses, being notified when a favourite author submits something (after it's survived of course)...

These would be really useful to myself and - I'm sure - others and would also surely help foster the community spirit.

Obviously Pico 2 would be good and I sorta expect it this year from what you've said. I have high hopes.

Allowing us to select our favourite audio tracks and audio authors is a nice idea and may help the audio portal get a bit more recognition.

It would be nice to finally finish the gradual revamp of the site. (The BBS search screen still has the very old style for example).

I really don't understand why the info (size, rating, author and score) don't pop up for stuff in the 2 right-hand columns in the portal and feel it'd be nice if that happened.

Overall though, I was really impressed with all the stuff that '04 brought - the mag, the beta portal, the icons representing game/animations (my favourite addition possibly), almost total redesign... I think a good goal would simply be to at least match last year in terms of advancement.

Happy newyear NG!!
Lets make it easier to get to higher levels. 855 experiance points is a lil too hardcore for that transition from 9 to 10.
Besides that this website had been kick ass. Let bring back scrotum the puppy. I miss him...

Oh James. No need to get defensive now, I know how much work goes into writing the backend of just a small site, I can only imagine how much of a pain in the ass coding a monster such as NG must be... Especially for one person.

That said, there's a fine line between a promise and a hint. While Tom never did directly promise the dynamic series system for 2004, as I remember he certainly did imply that it was a pretty big priority at the beginning of last year.

I'm eager to see what you come up with in 05 :)

There are 3 things that I have wanted on this site for a very long time.
1) More secrets in the secrets menu
2) The Add to Collection button to begin working
3) One of my movies being placed on the Front Page

If these things happened I think myself, and many other hundreds of thousands of NG fans would be happy.

Hell yeah Stamperized Profiles. With the Platinum Accounts people can perhaps pay $2 - $5 a year for a crapload of extra features.
And bring back the Popularity stat in the profiles!!

"Goal" for 2005 on Newgrounds:

A great idea for Newgrounds would be to create a system where you get more points on your account if you submit a legitimate flash and if you submit something really bad, deduct points. The points I refer to are the experience ones.

Well, I have always thought a few modifications would be cool:

1. Perhaps you can make a user-nominated section on the front page. Not only do we vote to determine the overall score of a NG submission, but maybe we could also flag a movie/game for a front page nomination. I've seen a lot of great NG posts that haven't truly received the exposure they deserve. Have the server tally up the nominations at the end of the day and poof, there you go. Call it the NG Users Award or something.

2. More control over the Alpha's page. I think the Alphas Page has more potential than people think. Let us edit our Alpha page by adding updates, answering user questions/suggestions, polling what content users would like to see in the final piece (etc.). What would be sweet would be to see a kickass game/movie on the front page, discover that it has listing in NG Alphas, and have the oppurtunity to see how it was made and who influenced its creation. I have a blog that I use to show how my game, Master Lao VS the IRS, is coming along (http://www.mondomaniatrics.com/blog/masterlao). This is sort of an example that I'm talking about. Also, giving us the ability to delete an Alpha page would be good. Sometimes, projects just end up souring. There's no reason to keep people's hopes up for a dead feature. Hell, I've been waiting for Pico 2 since forever ;P.

3. More attention to flash developers. NG is frequented by thousands of talented artists and programmers every day. Why not add some forums that they can better relate to? An artist's corner to showcase talent (already mentioned earlier I think), advanced Actionscript for gaming, the Animator's corner (for featuring frame by frame showcases or how to's), backend programming, etc. NG is primarily used for displaying final projects. I'd like to see NG become more of a community where people come come to learn. Besides, the Flashkit forums are drying up fast.

4. It was a great idea in the past, but I don't know why you haven't gone through with it: An NG user account that we pay for. Everyone is entitled to a free Newgrounds. But, god damnit, if it takes paying two bucks a month for a special membership to keep the porn ads off of my machine at work then so be it. If you keep the cost low, the amount of people who enlist should outweigh the revenue you earn on the porn. Don't get me wrong, I love a little hentai now and then, but having the boss walk in on those bastard ads makes it too risky to watch NG at the office.

5. It'd be nice if I could be notified by email when people respond to my posts at the NG BBS.

6. This may be too much, but could you place a user preference in the profile to only view graphic ads? I have noticed that the flash ads can diminish or slow the playback on some movies.

7. This may sound pretentious, but it would be sweet to have an NG-elite section. This section is devoted to and can only be accessible by the top animators and game designers on NG. Only those who've scored a high average on all of their submissions; racked up a quota of daily trophies, exceeded a certain experience point level (9+) could view the site. Even if it's just a message board or a chat section. I'm sick of wading through hundreds of submissions/questions/comments made by noobs. God knows we're here for them, but sometimes I feel like kickin' it with the pros.

8. Purely for my own interests: Set up a notification system to let users know that they're about to watch a stick flick. I'm sorry, but I just can't STAND stick figure movies. Knowing about it before hand would really save some time on my end. Then again, some people LOVE stick flicks, so knowing that the movie/game they're about to view would get them even more excited.

That's about it. Wow, this post is long. Hope this inspires some new ideas. But please finish "Pico 2" and "Dad and Me" before getting side tracked by anything else.

Keep up the fantastic work!
