I prefer Resident Evil 1 (remake) over 4. With that said, one is my favorite.
Horror/survival horror slowly died out and evolved into action adventure in my opinion. A good example of this would be the Resident Evil series, the Silent Hill franchise just became complete confusion.
That said my favorite horror games would be Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill on the PS1 and then Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube.
Probably RE4. The most intense and stressful thing I've played through.
