so consider a piece like piano phase which is in many ways compositionally simple but conceptually complex - it also sounds complex af if you concentrate on it as it progresses.
anyway yea OP i'll do this if you outline exactly what you mean by "patterns" in a way that applies to all forms of composition

no, FL uses patterns, idk which DAW you use though
A lot of my earlier songs were done with one single pattern. Now, you'd have to specify just how many bars a pattern uses. Do we cram all the instruments into one pattern, or do we just have one instrument per pattern?
