Shorter user addresses

[Gimmick]

I'm quite a lazy sonuvabitch and so instead of typing username.newgrounds.com I made a keyboard shortcut on my Android device to append a .newgrounds.com at the cursor. However, that got me thinking: Just like twitter's, google's and some other url shortening services (not like bitly though), it'd be easier to have shorter domain names that would redirect to the user's page or somesuch. Nothing more than a novelty, but it'd help the fat asses in us all.

Things like, say:

ng.us/username
username.ng.us
find.us/username
username.find.us

It could also redirect to portal entries, be it art, audio, game or movie portals.

ng.us/mov/entry
art.ng.us/entry

etcetera etcetera.

Whaddya think?

Just go to the home page, delete the www and type the user name. Seriously, I can't even fathom how lazy you'd have to be for this to be too much work.

I don't like these because they are slow and entirely too bulky, if you're talking about those 3D globe things with the location dots on them.

For a site which uses Flash heavily anyway it's completely unacceptable, performance-wise.

When we already have Flash ads on pages with Flash games, we don't also need a huge Flash 3D globe thing.

Another perk: Possible ad rev like a splash "continue to the page" with an ad on it, like Forbes or so.

Any URL has that. If a normal URL shows something like "/portal/view/<number" and the short one shows "/mov/<number>" then I wouldn't have much reason to doubt it. I very much doubt Admin&Co would be nefarious enough to do that. Although it'd be fun for Halloween.

Ones that are reserved. It may be possible to backorder them, though. Or search for some domain that doesn't have it reserved.
All 1 to 2 letter CO domains are reserved, by the CO registry itself. Whoop-de-fuck. Also: parked domains "courtesy <hosting site>".

I feel like these really aren't shorter though, or if they are, just barely. Then again, I don't use NG on my phone so maybe that's whu this doesn't seem useful to me.
