The Room - Entertainment Weekly? Sep. 6th, 2010 @ 03:52 PM Reply

I don't think Newgrounds has ever gotten a mention in Entertainment Weekly, so I'm thinking if enough people visit this page on their site (about The Room game), maybe we'll get on their radar:

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/09/06/the-ro om-video-game/

We also got write-ups in Joystiq and the The Boston Phoenix.

The cast members who played Lisa and Denny have plugged the game on their pages and I hear Tommy Wiseau enjoyed it! That makes me the happiest of all, because I really really want him to like it.

I made note of the DVD's Amazon sales stats right before we launched:

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #683 in Movies & TV (See Top 100 in Movies & TV)
#1 in Movies & TV > Comedy > Independently Distributed
#8 in Movies & TV > Drama > Independently Distributed

We're using our Flash API to track clicks and so far, 4,739 people have clicked the in-game link to check out the DVD on Amazon. The stats on Amazon fluctuate (they were actually better this morning) but right now they are:

Amazon Bestsellers Rank: #346 in Movies & TV (See Top 100 in Movies & TV)
#1 in Movies & TV > Comedy > Independently Distributed
#5 in Movies & TV > Drama > Independently Distributed

Even crazier, a lot of people have been clicking Johnny's face on the loading screen - probably thinking it's the play button. As a result, 26,824 people have gone to the IMDB page for Tommy Wiseau. He was up 15% last week but the stat just updated today and he is up 157% in popularity this week. This next week could be even bigger!

Thank you everyone who has left positive feedback on the game! I have a few bugs to fix this week, but I'm also trying to get something (small) ready for Madness Day before I head out for the Tokyo Game Show.

This is the game JohnnyUtah and I have been working on.

First Time, then Entertainment Weekly, now THE WORLD! Pretty good year for Newgrounds I must say.

I can't believe that game is getting so popular. Especially considering what movie it's based on.

I fucking knew that was the best game ever. I was playing it and thinking this game deserves some kind of award like Dad n me and would you look at this. It gets mentioned in entertainment weekly. The wait on this game was well worth it.

Hopefully now you can get started on your madness day game.
