DPI stands for dots per inch. It's the same as PPI, pixels per inch. If you print something at 72 DPI, which is often the standard setting, the result will look very blurry. Kind of like having a low resolution picture. If you work at 300 DPI, which is pretty much a industry standard for anything printed, you have alot more dots or pixels per square inch. The result is a much better image.
