Medal derbies sound cool. Not sure if you'd get a sponsor, maybe you have to pay a bit to get in?
And yeah, you'd have to figure out a way to filter the easy medal points, either by making new accounts (makes Tom unhappy?) or by giving a list of games,

The Review Request club, the Blammers List (update every 15th), and the Protectors List (Update every 1st). My sig has it all.

I'm celebrated? :D Thanks for the support, everyone.

The derby idea sounds fun! Personally I wouldn't participate if I had to make a new account or pay an entry fee (the latter would definitely lower the turnout). Maybe blacklisting a few sources of easy mega points would be nice so that people who already earned them aren't at a big disadvantage, but otherwise I think it should be fair since medal hunters have previous experience. A themed derby would also be good. I would suggest not lumping prizes too heavily on the top 1-3 users to make it more fair for people who have obligations that take up a lot of time.

See my news post with medal hunting links and tools. I made a program NGMedals that finds your statistics and unearned medals.

There is also a browser script.

Most users would never pay just to join an event.

Making new accounts could work for some. I have seen others do it before, and I chance to win a prize would provide certain motivation. Making a list of games would make it appear to be more fair and balanced.

It worked for Nijsse, at least. :) Myself I really wouldn't want to spread my stats across multiple accounts until I have enough on this one (and is there ever enough), but some day... who knows...

CyberDevil, you have enough stats, especially reviews, for multiple accounts. lol
I was just saying I have seen users make a new account before, something like this might encourage them. I would rather see people using new accounts, than dormant old accounts just collecting dust.

Well everything's relative. The more you have... well you know how it goes. :P That's true, definitely good to see activity, be it new or old.

How and in which games did he cheat?

Uses API controls to frequently remove medals and reduce points for others. He tried to use info from me to justify a couple cases last year, though I gave him info to the contrary for one, nothing for the other (did not know till too late, though did not matter ultimately), which is why I've had him blocked for the last several months. I did not realize he was using it to climb a point ranking. So technically, he uses all games to cheat. It's a conflict of interest, and he knows that.

The entirety of the staff probably knows it. I would've turned him in sooner, but you know how staff is. I don't really care much about points myself, since I entertain no delusions about ever being on the list. I would've let it go, but I happened to come across this thread again while I was looking for something else. Noticed it, mulled it over and decided to out him.

Since he blocked me can somebody explain that guy what do API moderators do and why are they removing broken medals and medals from broken games? I wonder how is it possible that somebody is on NG for such a long time and does not understand/know the basic things?

But beware Nijsse and PhantasyReal, during this week I am going to remove medals for a total of 150K to become the leader of the list ;-)
Oh, almost forgot: nobody knows but the API moderators obviously have that super secret button "unlock all medals in this game for me" and I used it very often to get my over 600K points ;-)

As for that user: below is the genesis of his frustration, obviously there are also some problems with understanding the read text... And if I ruined somebody's meaning of life by removing medals from one faulty game... well, from somebody that states that is 36 years old we could expect some more "grown up" reactions...
Funny fact is that this game started to work again, it seems that it could be a problem with the previous version of flash player, but due to one current problem with the API tools I am unable to bring back the medals to see if they work - in a normal way, not by messing up with the save files...

C'mon, don't get it into the sphere of absurd...

So you are basically suggesting that every long-time API moderators: @Nijsse, @PulseLane, @EdyKel, @Shantom, @Knuckstrike during all these years were abusively removing medals that they could not obtain for their advantage, asking the authors to reduce the points amount in them-because there is no API tool that allows them to do it-for the same reason, etc.?

You basically suggest that API moderators cannot behave in a professional way and separate being a moderator from being a medal hunter.

Do you remember what you once wrote me about why you declined when you were asked to become a moderator?

It is obvious that API mods are the ones that got lots of points on their medal walls, because they test lots of games. I even noticed that since Exedor joined this team at the same time when I did his collected points amount boosted significantly. It is also obvious that the API moderators will likely be picked from the group of people with lots of medals collected, because they know the most of games. A speculation: in some time Tom decides that another API moderator is needed and chooses RightTime for example. Would that be fair that he would automatically be removed from the list just for becoming a moderator?

Back to the issue: lots of times already I was removing medals FOR MY OWN DISADVANTAGE because this is something that a professional moderators - and a medal hunters - should do. I always stated that broken medals should be taken down regardless of who obtained them.

By doing what you have suggested you would basically put into the garbage can all the medal hunting effort made by the people I mentioned and all their hard work during all the years of being the moderators.
Do you think that Nijsse deserves to lose his #1 spot like this, just for being an API moderator?

And as for the conflict of interests that has been mentioned: as a highly-ranked medal hunter should you be running this list? No suggestions, just a provocative question to think about.

And last but not least: I am not making fun of him. I simply say that the moderators have their right to defend themselves when they are being attacked for no reason, oh-even for doing what they are supposed to do. Numerous of times I saw lots of words that cannot be quoted here being thrown at forum moderators, at review moderators, at game moderators for just doing their job properly and keeping this place running as it should be.

Was that a joke? Cause it sure sounded like one. You basically just suggested removing Nijsse, HerbieG, PulseLane and several other BIG medal hunters from the list simply because they have the power to remove broken medals.
And I specially laughed at that "I would accidentally appear on the number 1 spot", that was a good one.

Welp, this post became obsolete after reading Edykel's much better post. =)

I'm not really sure what I'm stepping into here, but from the looks of things a poster is accusing an API mod of cheating, and you are taking their side, and threatening to remove all API mods because of a supposed advantage you think they have, without proof.

Now, I don't really care about being on the list. I haven't been burning myself out on obtaining medals like I had in the past. But the thing to understand is that before we became mods many of us were already at the top of the list, and were very active in discussing medals, exposing cheaters, and finding bugs and reporting them. That's how we got nominated for our positions.

After we became mods we discussed a lot of thing. We ironed out the rules. We talked about medal for games that were not unlocking for new users. We talked about what to do with cheaters. We also cleaned up the medal system, and removed a lot of medals.

No one likes to lose medals, especially when they put time and effort into the game to earn them. We mods lost a lot of medals, more than newer medal hunters will ever experince, but it had to be done to make the medal system fair to everyone.

We put a lot of time and effort to make sure that every one can obtain medals, so we slog through tough games, games that are badly programed, and games that are garbage. We don't remove medals because we can't get a medal, or because we don't like a game. We remove them because they either are broken, don't follow the rule, or the game's author does not fix them.

The only power mods have is to delete medals. We can't reduce points for them. In most instances we try to work with the game's author, telling them what is acceptable and what is not. We also let other mods know what we are doing, so we don't trip over each other in dealing with the same medal/s. For more complicated issue we discuss what to do about them among ourselves.

Many us mods are not as active as we use to be. We have lives of own own to deal with. We still remove medals when need be, but we also decided that we needed new blood. HerbieG is our newest mod. We recognized him because he was very passionate, not just in obtaining them, but also weeding out cheaters and broken, or unobtainable, medals. He has our full confidence. Unless there is solid proof that he has done something wrong, we will continue to support him over baseless gossip.

I assumed PhantasyReal was simply being satiric in his response, similar to HerbieG when he threatened to remove 150K medals and use the 'secret tools' to rise to the top of the list (albeit without smileys as to make it perfectly clear it was just a joke).

As such I'm pretty surprised to see people so riled up by that response, @HerbieG especially as it followed the style of your own post! Maybe I'm wrong, but seems y'all might be misjudging PhantasyReal's intentions here...

Is this for real? If so, it could effect having any mod on any list. I look forward to seeing how all this plays out.

I don't frequent this thread that often, so I'm pretty clueless with what's going on. Maybe I overreacted, but sarcasm in text form is not always easy to read. And, I don't know about other mods, but I get a little tired of all the criticism from other posters, or getting angry PM's from game authors who think I treated them unfairly. All I try to do is make sure everyone can get medals in a fair way. That's it, and that is what I felt needed to be explained, not just to one person, but to others.

If I did miss the sarcasm from @PhantasyReal, then I do apologize to him.

Anyway, blastvortex is clearly upset about losing medals but HerbieG was just doing his job.

I have to agree on this, if it was sarcasm then I apologize as well, but by the way the message was written it seemed to be serious, even if I did wonder if it was a joke.

We will have to wait for an official statement to make sure if it was sarcasm, or a serious statement. This has been the most excitement that I have seen in this topic in a long time.

I admit that if that would appear to be a late April Fools prank of some sort then I would be impressed by the idea. Kudos!
It would be interesting to see such a prepared list without any moderators. Yes, the statement did sound serious with all these serious words and phrases like "solid point", "reconsider", "credibility", "true intention". But if it was supposed to be a prank then it just HAD to sound serious for others to believe in it. And if it really looks like this then I say that this "attack" was "super effective" ;-)

For sure. Do appreciate what you guys are doing too. Depressing as it may be when points drop it's just one of those inevitable sacrifices for the greater cause of fair medeling for all!
