Well, it would probably be a lifetime achivement type award too. But it's not the only reason; actors die all the time, but there have been very few posthumous Oscars in history. Maybe, just maybe people really think he acted the role well.

Well, personally, I'm not that impressed by Christian Bale's performance, the new Batman movies are more about the auxiliary characters, and the enviroment than who is playing Batman.

yeah, theres less character development on batmans side and more on who he's fighting and whats goin on in their environment, like in begins where all the people are going crazy in the city...

I think Heath played the Joker fantastically well, he really captured the insanity and genius that is the Joker. He fully deserves to be rewarded for that performance regardless of his death.
What annoys me is when people lash out at popular subjects in order to look either rebellious or opinionated when deep down the issue has no direct effect on their personal life thus rendering the outburst pointless.
