"You can hardly see a thing, save for the flickering light from the flames outside of your hiding place. Everyone that you knew is likely dead. Or worse. And you likely will suffer the same fate as the forces that destroyed your village finally find you hiding in the last standing building in that village. Your last hope is to run, and that's exactly what you do. You run faster than you've ever run in your life, knowing that it's pointless.

"They pursue you, shooting unknown projectiles at you and cursing in their incomprehensible language when they miss. You get to the edge of town and finally begin to hope again when you're struck in the leg by one of the projectiles. The pain is blinding, and you collapse right there. Breathing raggedly, you look at your useless leg.

"The projectile looks like a spike with barbs running along its length. You see that the barbs completely shredded the impact area. But you're not worried about that right now. What you're worried about is the rapid approach of the monsters. All of your options are exhausted, and there's nothing that you can do to avoid your fate.

"One creature comes close, and you can see that it's more horrible than you could have ever imagined. Its eyes are sunken deep into its wolf-shaped head, with dozens of spikes protruding and hanging from its mane. Hundreds of razor-sharp and bloody teeth line its muscular jaw. Its arms, also covered in spikes, like hair, give way to deadly-looking talons, at least a foot long and terrifyingly sharp.

"It says something to another creature close by, and that creature nods its head. You try to crawl away, but both you and the creature recognize that the effort is futile. The last thing that you ever see is the creature raise one bloody claw above its head and swing down, aiming straight for your heart....."

This song is a reorchestration of a song I made a year ago, called Darkside, which can be found here: <http://www.newgrounds.co m/audio/listen/182834>. I did this song specifically for a flash game for the Power of Three. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it.

mannnn.

like wow nice job that ultamate totaly cool completely amasing but try amping up the bass alittle more increasing the effects of running and all but all in all purfect cant w8 till you make another...

blackattackbitch responds:

Yeah, I realized the bass was too low after I rendered it and closed the project.

I'm not sure what you mean by "effects of running". Could you clarify in a PM?

Thanks for the review though, I'm glad you liked it. Hopefully another song will be up in a week at the most, since I finally have free time to work on another classical piece.

Flawless

This piece is quite powerful, and its structure is clever and more innovative than any other classical song I've heard.

Your instruments combine to create this beautiful, mysterious song with clarity. The percussion is executed well, and the strings were a little weak, but were stellar nonetheless. What hit me hard, in a good way, were the keyed and woodwind instruments. They have the spotlight in this piece in my opinion.

What mesmerizes me is that this is a loop---a seamless loop. And not only is it that, it's a loop with great structure and integrity.

5/5 and 10/10!!!

Keep up the great work!!!!

blackattackbitch responds:

The anomalies with the string are most likely due to the fact that during the recomposition of this song from its earlier version, I attempted to change akk the synths in the original to their most similar acoustic counterparts. Some synths were hard to emulate though, and the result was, well, you can kind of tell hahahaha

Thanks for the amazing compliments though, I didn't expect this song to recieve the reception that it did, especially since the ending turned out much weaker than I intended. If you wanna see why, check out the original version. The power in the last section was amazing in that version.

I'm surprised that your favorite portions of the song involved the woodwind and the keyed instruments, especially since I only used a flute, a piano, and an organ from those two families.

Thanks again, this review, as well as the others, made me feel good. Honestly.

Awesome...

...as always. :-P

I've got a headache, so this will be a short review. To be honest though, what do I say really? You have a great grasp on writing, and really do a great job at creating the perfect atmosphere in your pieces.

The mesh of instruments is really well done. I still can't figure out how you get everything to sound so clear and precise. I can write, but I can't get a professional sound out of my sound fonts for anything. You though my friend, seems to excel at it like no other.

I love the the fluidity of this piece. It really interweaves itself around itself. I'm not sure that makes sense, but this seems to be like smoke and it simply flows around itself. It is solid, yet ethereal, tangible, yet untouchable. Simply wonderful work here.

5/5 and 10/10 overall! This has been favorited!

blackattackbitch responds:

I usually try to layer my instruments in order to create a more unique sound while also masking any bad sample elements. I also eq everything below and above the main signal to the lowest point possible, while moderating the rest. I EQ every instrument that sounds a bit beneath par.

As for reverb, I keep all instruments under the same reverb settings, so that each instrument sounds like it belongs with the other. All the volume envelopes are edited while the reverb is still active, so that no instruments sounds like it's ending too soon.

I try to make sure that the amount of instruments playing on one side of the stereo field equals the other, or is at least close. As a result, many of the instruments are separated.

I also try to separate the melodies, make sure that an instrument playing one melody isn't on the same octave as another playing a different melody.

That pretty much sums up the ways that I keep everything clear.

The fluidity of this piece is actually a weird effect of the samples I chose for this piece. Since I used a lot of section instruments, which have a slow release time, the piece seemed to swim, adding to the mystery effect that linkcrazy cited below.

Thanks for enjoying, man. That's all I really ask for. Thanks ;)

name is amazing

good name man

dude this is really good, the story along with it is perfect, i cant think of anything better

good snare stuff, usually your volume on them is not to great, but there good this time around

whoa holly crap i didnt even realized it looped so perfectly, this is like my 5th time listening now, and its not repetitive, great job with that

i liked the organ, but i wish it had more punch to it, a more dramatic feel, ya know?

other than that, this track was REALLY good

more tracks like this plis

How the hell did you get it to loop so good, most loops i hear have like a 1 second glitch b4 they restart. this was perfect though..

great track man

peace out

blackattackbitch responds:

Well, most MP3s suck for looping anyways, I wasn't really worried about perfecting the loop too much. Personally, I just make sure there's some kind of effect at the beginning to keep people from noticing that it just looped. On a few songs, I used a cymbal roll that began at the end of the song and finished on the other side.

I was actually worried that the end of this track wouldn't sound dramatic enough, and I definitely know that the original has a much more dramatic sound at the finish.

I wish I had a different organ to choose from, but unfortunately that's the best organ sampleset that I have right now.

Thanks for the review, and thanks for the good comments about the drums especially cuz that means I'm finally doing something right hahahaha

And I have to say, it took me a good 20 minutes to finally think of this name :P

Oh and I just remembered, the loop might have been helped by the impulse reverb, which causes a ton of latency. If you notice, the actual beginning of the song starts at the last beat before it's supposed to because of the latency.

Argh!

I hate this. I don't mean that i hate your song, but i hate my incapability of writing a proper review with good and bad points. I can write down the good points, but the bad points... yeah...
So, i'll just write an extremely positive review. I hope you don't mind :P
I like the piano arp at the beginning and those drums that come in sound really good and fast. Also, i really like how you always use so much instruments. I mean, how much do you use? Like 15 or something? :P
I like how your songs always sound so fluent and NEVER repetitive. Hmm, maybe i have a point of critique here. I can't hear a recognisable memory.
Well, that was my review. Now my score (this won't surprise you):
10/10
5/5
MH16

blackattackbitch responds:

Actually, if you were counting the number of different samples, sample-sets, and programs I was using, it would probably be closer to 30 lol XD

Instrument-wise, I used....let's see....the violin family, 3 members of the brass family, 2 keyed instruments, 1 woodwind, and several drum samples. The only thing is that I usually load several different articulations of the same instruments and layer some instruments together. This one was actually a small project compared to some of my others (especially La Guerra, that was a HUGE project).

Thanks for noting the lack of a repeating riff, I'm definitely gonna address that in my next piece ;-)

And don't worry about your review style, especially with me. I personally think that people who demand that the reviews that they recieve should be in a specific format are a little too full of themselves. I accept all reviews as long as they aren't abusive, even if they're nothing but 1 word responses.

BTW, those drums are courtesy of ProjectSam's True Strike freebies. I need to add that site to my list, but I never got around to it....

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the review! Sorry I haven't been around as much, real life is getting real pressing nowadays. Even my music As soon as I have a good chance, I'm gonna leave a few hefty reviews on your songs.
