Reviews for "Happy Corp. [Alpha] [Updated 5/14/2024]"

Good concept and plays decently.
One or two issues though:
1. Every damn thing shaking during the opening of each level as the wall descends. Nasty on the eyes.
2. No pause button.
3. For some reason, a couple of times when I played, I launched the ball and within seconds every building exploded all at once. I see no in-game explanation for it.
4. Twice while playing, the wall seemed to land on top of buildings, making them impossible to destroy.

EDIT: Yes, the yellow hexagonal wall landed in such a way that it was on top of one of the buildings. It was the later level with lots of concrete walls and many buildings.

The yellow hexagonal wall landed on top?

IF this was on Nintendo Switch eShop I would buy it

saltandpixel responds:

This game would be so much fun on Switch. For when you need something mindless to do.

After completing all the levels I can confidently give this 5/5 stars. The game is fun, I normally don't like these types of brick breaking games but this one is awesome. The pixelated style is lovely, the powerups are fun, and the inclusion of a magnet that moves the ball slightly is really fun to use when you get the hang of it. The only issue I have is that sometimes the ball is obscured by buildings, making it so that you could look around from different angles, or even making the building the ball is behind slightly transparent would be nice. I hope in the full release we get a bit more dialogue/info about our boss/jobs.

I look forward to the full release.

saltandpixel responds:

Oh Wow! Thank you.
I agree, tracking the ball would make the game better. Still a lot of balancing I want to do. I would love to do more creepy live action corporate videos to help tell the story a bit. Fingers crossed for a full release.

The gameplay loop does get a bit boring after a bit, but I beat all of the levels, and noticed that you can send the ball as the intro cutscene is still playing, and the gun power-up persists between levels. I do want the paddle to be incapable of shrinking further than the default state and have power-ups be far more readable.
Highscore: ~$2.5 Billion.
Make sure to add some stuff to make each city we demolish feel unique, and make the militias far more pronounced.

Outdated Review:
Needs WASD support, and the ability to rebind keys. I do like the concept behind it however. I'll grant you an extra star or 2 when those features are added, cause the screen scroll atm makes playing this impossible.

saltandpixel responds:

You can full screen the game, or click the game window to focus it. That will prevent the scrolling. Rebinding keys is something I can't get to right now. I might be able to add WASD support, later today.

It would have been a great game had the browser scrolling been disabled. every time I moved around, the screen would scroll either up or down out of view.

saltandpixel responds:

I have no control over that. You can click the game screen to focus and prevent it.
