Reviews for "Frozen Helm"

I don't think it can be called an "metroidvania", it's not exactly the type of the game.

But I like the concept of the game, it's creative. You have a item that opens the entire level, but it have a ammo gauge and have to be recollected. Nice catch.

I had a good time. ^^

Glad you enjoyed it, the idea of the helm running out of power came from Tom Hall, creator of Commander Keen, who organised the jam this was made for. :)

It slipped and slid at the slightest provocation. You need to work on being able to play the game without the screen scrolling off the game.

I thought this was amazing for a Pico-8 game. You could tell that you took some time on this project and added a great amount of polish. The ice and fire effects were some of my favorite things to see and you seemed to utilize the potential of the engine.

You were able to add a decent story for such a short game and I didn't find one thing about it confusing or difficult to understand. The controls and sliding element added a bit of a challenge, but that doesn't take away from the playability. It's its own learning curve and not a bad one. If I were to give criticism, I would say having more variety of enemies, rooms, and collectables would take this to a higher level. It's short and sweet, but you could make it even better with a bit more variety.

Thank you for making it! Also, what's that necklace thing?? I wasn't able to get it.

Thanks for the detailed review and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I added a couple more items over the original jam version of the game and wanted to add more enemies but too I ran out of space on the cart (Pico-8 has limits on how big a game can get) so adding more would have been at the expense of removing something else.

Sounds like you're talking about a hidden item at the end there. :)

decent but good
