Reviews for "Hen in the Foxhouse 2.1"

really good gameplay loop but gets impossible by the end

VerilyFine responds:

I've played way too much in testing so my sense of difficult may be off, lol. Noted.

Holy shit, this way more dark than the original. Cool cutscenes though! I liked the meta systems.

What I thought could be better is that you've really discouraged from playing aggressively, with having to destroy buildings (which takes eggs), the way you lose progress if you don't do damage, and all the difficult foxes you face later on. That's a shame, because herding foxes is challenging and has some depth to it. I like the enemies, but you're incentivized to stay still and take like 3 enemies at a time, and the game lets you do that. Even the gun foxes conveniently move in closer for you to hit them so you never have to stop turtling.

I'd either make forward progress easier but make the pressure behind you mount up faster, or I'd reward you with eggs for each new bit of horizontal progress you make. Perhaps give the chicken a single extra life per day as well, so she can "dodge" one collision and use up her life, so it isn't so punishing to play fast? Just to give an impression of the kind of change I'm thinking of.

VerilyFine responds:

Fantastic feedback! I'm really going to think over what you've said, because you definitely make some excellent points. The game's focus should be on offense, and the mechanics introduced are inhibiting that playstyle. Now I'll just have to find a way to reroute the mechanics without straight up removing a ton of these additions.

the moment when the Hen goes Hank level on the foxes:
Indeed that Hen is a class 5-A threat to the Fox City

(also I kinda predict the Chicken is a Female since it's able to lay eggs, which it utilizes as a weapon)

Really like this concept! As someone who has owned chickens for about 90% of my life the opening really struck a cord with me, since a lot of our chicken deaths were from foxes. I really hope the Steam release goes well for you guys!

VerilyFine responds:

I never realized someone might have a personal connection to this like that, wow. Thanks for the support, I'm glad you liked it!

An incredible game! I love it so much!
