Reviews for "Color Shift (& finishing games)"

Hey so, I made an account on here just to leave this comment.

As I was playing the last level, I wanted to give up. I decided to head to itch io and download the game so I could read into the data and find out your last few lines of your message you were trying to say.

At the last byte, it stopped downloading for some reason. I didn't feel like waiting for it so I just continued trying to beat the last level. I kept dying, and the download just wouldn't finish. But I didn't stop trying either. Eventually, I beat the game and got to read everything you said. The download never finished.

Despite the concept and controls being very simple, you managed to make a gameplay that goes perfectly in line with your message, almost turning it into something narrative. Perhaps you didn't even mean to, but that's still how it feels. It's almost as if even the download itself was telling me not to give up, so I didn't, and I succeeded.

This may be one of the most meaningful experiences I've ever had that I just happened to randomly find on the internet. I was just looking for 2D webgames that are perfectly responsive on all devices. I was definitely not looking for something like this, yet it came to me.

Thank you.

I'm kind of at a loss for words... The fact that this thing was meaningful to you is sort of the best compliment I could get. It's sort of funny that if I had actually finished this when I started it, or any of the many times I tried to get back to it, you would have never seen it, so in some way I'm glad it took me so long. Thank you for playing and telling that to me. Also feel free to PM me if you need help with anything or just want to chat.

I really do resinate with your words. please P.M. me as i might be able to help you out. i love this game and i really do feel where your at. never mind i stand corrected.

I was able to beat this hard game because I wanted to see what you had to say. Thanks for talking to me, because it did make me feel better about what I'm going through. If somebody enjoys what I had made, then the creation process is worth it. But I always worry that maybe the thing I made isn't good enough, and then I remove it from the internet shortly after uploading it.

I hope that releasing this game helped ease your mind a little. It's not all that bad, I can assure you. The controls are tight. Collision is flawless. In the end I had enough abilities to always be able to do what I wanted to do. In addition to having colored gates, you were able to require me to use a certain color shifts with only solid ground and spikes, which was resourceful.

Thank you for playing. And yeah, people enjoying this has been my year's highlight probably. I hope some day you start posting your stuff too, if you want help with anything just PM me!

I really like the game, and if you want to talk, feel free to private message me. Don't feel like you have to though, just offering.

Also, I guess that I'm a not depressed version of you. That is, I know what I'm doing is low quality, but I make a joke out if it and call it my art style to be positive. Not trying to say I'm better than you for that, just saying that you can always turn your limitations into positives.

The level design is really solid, some parts are difficult but i think it helps with getting the message across about not giving up and i think thats genius, the narrative is on par with the gameplay, the controls felt responsive at all times so it wasn't frustrating, it's a really enjoyable experience.
